Lead Linux / Windows Systems Engineer | Active Secret Clearance Required
(6-month Contract-to-Hire)
APEX Systems is seeking a well-qualified Windows/Linux Engineer to join our clients dynamic team of technical professionals in Linthicum, MD, where you will serve as the IT Lead for a large, classified government contract, overseeing the maintenance and operational activities of the entire IT infrastructure.
Location: Linthicum, MD, Fully onsite
Pay: Starting at 55 an hour
Conversion Salary: $115,400 -$170,000
Clearance: Secret Clearance Required
Position Overview and Key Responsibilities:
The selected candidate will serve as the IT Lead for a large, classified government contract, overseeing the maintenance and operational activities of the entire IT infrastructure, including servers, desktop, and networking equipment. As a senior technical resource, you will mentor junior team members, communicate effectively with all stakeholders, and ensure IT projects are completed independently or delegated as necessary. You will analyze customer requirements, recommend equipment and software, and coordinate vendor quotes for procurement. Additionally, you will implement system enhancements to improve performance, reliability, and security, manage backup infrastructure, maintain virus protection and security audit/logging information, create and maintain user and computer accounts, and develop technical processes and procedures. Providing technical support to other classified programs across the campus as needed will also be part of your role.

Basic Qualifications:
- Associate degree with 11 years of experience, or a Bachelor's degree with 9 years of experience, or a Master's degree with 7 years of experience, or a PhD with 4 years of experience; a High School diploma or equivalent with 13 years of experience may be considered in lieu of a completed degree.
- Active DoD Secret security clearance, with the ability to obtain and maintain a Special Access Program (SAP/SAR) clearance.
- Valid Security+CE, CASP, CISSP, or similar DoD 8570 or 8140 compliant security certification.
- Ability to lift equipment weighing up to 40 pounds.
- Experience operating under and managing systems within current applicable information systems compliance standards.
- Advanced knowledge and experience with:
- Microsoft Active Directory (AD) - deployment, maintenance, and support.
- Group Policy Objects (GPO) - creation, modeling, and maintenance.
- DNS Server administration.
- DHCP Server administration.
- Windows Server Update Servers (WSUS), SCCM, or similar third-party software update system administration.
- Experience supporting license managers.
- Experience with golden image creation, deployment, and underlying infrastructure.
- Experience deploying vulnerability scanning tools and remediation.
- Experience leading and mentoring a technical team of IT professionals.
- Experience giving technical presentations to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Ability to provide surge support to other programs as needed.
- Ability to travel and work after hours and weekends as needed.
- Experience with VMWare virtualization platform, NetApp storage platform, and Nutanix hyperconverged infrastructure implementation, migration, and maintenance.
- Experience with system design and architecture.
- Strong communication skills with executive leadership.
