Pay Information: $39.74/hr plus $6.00/hr (Health & Wellness benefit through the Union)

SA-TECH has been supporting the US Navy's mission at Naval Base Ventura County, Point Point Mugu as a prime contractor since 2008. Our responsibilities encompass operating and performing operational-, intermediate-, and depot-level maintenance for aerial and seaborne assets in support of weapon systems test and evaluation and fleet training exercises. We manage all stages of aerial and seaborne target assets' operational progression from initial inspection and configuration through deployment, return and post-operation maintenance and repair. We provide management, scheduling and execution of aerial and seaborne target operations; operation and maintenance of target recovery vessels (Aerial Vehicle Recovery [AVRs]); asset maintenance and depot repair; depot engineering assistance; recovery of aerial and seaborne assets; inventory management; and management of Government-furnished facilities, materials, vehicles and equipment. SA-TECH personnel perform commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) to Remote Control conversion to meet PMS-325 production goals for the Seaborne Targets Externally Directed Team (STEDT). We also provide target control system operation and management, and set-up, test and operation of assets for System for Naval Target Control (SNTC) and Portable Command and Control Unit (PCCU) support at local and deployed locations.

SA-TECH is currently hiring an Aircraft Mechanic I to service, repair, and overhaul aircraft and aircraft engines to ensure airworthiness. This position will be located at Naval Base Ventura County, Point Mugu, CA and other designated aerial target operating sites.

The following job functions are basic requirements but other tasks may be added, as needed.
  • The Aircraft Mechanic (Airframe and/or Power Plant) will perform target build-up, scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, troubleshooting, target decontamination, repair and complete inspections required by proper operations manuals under supervision.
  • Maintenance work on BQM-34, 177, 74 aerial targets.
  • Work will include work/teardown of different types of non-afterburning turbojet engines used in aerial targets and/or work on the target airframe and assist on electronics and avionics equipment.
  • Ability to learn to test targets and components to ensure functionality in accordance with procedures defined in NAVAIR manuals using specified test equipment.
  • Disassembling and inspecting parts for wear, cracks, security, or other defects, and repairing or replacing defective engine parts and reassemble and install engine in aerial targets.
  • Operate and be qualified (technically and medically) in forklift operations and overhead crane operations.
  • May conduct preventive maintenance in maintaining the airframe, power plant and avionics of various targets.
  • Could involve direct support to BQM-34,177, and 74 target operations by assisting in target build-up, target transportation, and target decontamination processes.
  • Qualified in the handling and use of associated ordnance in support of target operations. Ordnance could include but not limited to small CADS (pyro technic devices), RATO/JATO, and flares.
  • Work in a technical capacity as a team member or team on frequent trips to field activities & vendors.
  • Other duties as assigned (SNTC Operator, Parachute packer, NAMP Program Manager...)
Work Conditions:
  • The working conditions will vary although most of the work will be accomplished in enclosed buildings.
  • Work activities will include 45% standing, 25% walking, 20% sitting, 5% reaching, and 5% lifting.
  • Must be capable of lifting 50-100 pounds assisted by other employees.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area to facilitate manufacturing functions.
  • Work Schedule: Currently 9/80 schedule (Mon - Thurs 9 hours, alternating Friday off, the other Friday work 8 hrs.)
  • Overtime: Occasionally required.
  • Travel: Required on routine basis but primary work location is NAWCWD Point Mugu

Requirements

Education/Experience/Skills:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Technical school training or specialized training in the appropriate field required or a total of two to three (2-3) years' experience in performing the stated functions may satisfy the education requirement.
  • Experience in a military environment (E3+) or on a military facility is preferred but not required.
  • Possess a strong basic mechanical-avionics background or engine experience.
  • Read engineering drawings, specifications & data collection under limited supervision.
  • Familiarity with naval target maintenance (CNAF 4790) programs.
  • Understanding of Computer/Networking/MS Office.
  • Knowledge of naval target (aircraft) maintenance practices to properly disassemble and reassemble several engine types.
  • Basic understanding/technical writing skills to assist in documenting new manufacturing and/or assembling instructions for new designs developed in-house.
  • Communication skills.
  • Works well with others as a member of a team.
  • Positive customer service attitude.
  • Current Driver's License required; must be able to be insured through company's vehicle insurance policy while driving work/government/rental vehicles during working hours, and for the duration of employment.
  • U.S. Citizenship required and you must be able to obtain a U.S. DoD Secret Security Clearance prior to start date and maintain a Secret clearance throughout employment.
  • All candidates will be required to pass background screening to include SSN, Driver Record, and Criminal Background Investigation.
