Purpose and Scope
The FSEU Supervisor, Mechanical Systems provides leadership and direct supervision to any combination of Boiler mechanics, Compressed Air mechanics, HVAC mechanics, Plumbers, and Water and Waste technicians, under their assigned departments and within the parameters of the Collective Bargaining Agreement (International Association of Machinist and Aerospace Workers). The Supervisor is responsible for planning, coordinating, and directing the daily operations and maintenance of mechanical systems and the preventative maintenance of onsite Facilities, Systems, Equipment, and Utilities (FSEU), and mission-based support of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and the Spaceport customers at Kennedy Space Center (KSC). This consists of but not limited to communicating and working side-by-side with multiple internal departments, NASA representatives, outside vendors and contractors to meet customer expectations, while meeting all contractual requirements associated within the department workload. The Supervisor is also responsible for both company and NASA owned real property assets (equipment, vehicles, and tools); as well as some facilities, structures, and buildings (staffed and unstaffed) that are assigned to the supervising departments.
Job Duties and Essential Responsibilities
1) Collect mechanical systems requirements, manage supporting personnel, and on-call for all Spaceport launches and mission essential operations, 24/7/365
2) Direct, manage, train, and mentor 20+ mechanical systems personnel to meet contractual workload requirements and the constant tempo of change due to the NASA and Spaceport mission
3) Conduct regular field audits of subordinates to ensure safe work habits, quality of work, and efficiency expectations are being met
4) Enforce and obey the tier 2 collective bargaining agreement
5) Guarantee compliance to all safety requirements directed by EPA, OSHA, NASA, ANSI, FDEP, CFR, KNPR, and local policies in all aspects of shop duties and embed in the shop culture
6) Review mechanical systems project plans and designs to ensure safety, accuracy, and superior workmanship
7) Certify compliance with Federal, State, local, NASA, Air Force, FAA, USFA, DHS, and US Coast Guard laws, regulations, and requirements
8) Recruit, interview, hire, and mentor new employee to ensure they are equipped for success
9) Act as primary Facility Manager for assigned FSEU structures and as an Alternate (backup) for additional facilities
10) Perform monthly walkdown of facilities, submit repair work orders, maintain safety compliance, conduct outage reviews, and provide concurrence
11) Project manage the planning, coordinating, scheduling, and tracking of mechanical systems work through completion while focusing on safety, compliance, maximizing efficiency & production and maintaining a healthy resource allocation
12) Mitigate/Prioritize/Engineer resolutions of mechanical system issues that may impact completion dates and operation schedules
13) Work side by side with Engineering to investigate root cause of mechanical systems, and/or equipment disfunction/failure and develop corrective action plans
14) Provide specialized material and direct vendor information for procurement needs
15) Spearhead pre-operation walkdowns to assist in planning of $50k+ projects
16) Equipment custodian for real property assets, valuing in the multi-million-dollar range, which ensures top-level mission readiness for Spaceport operations
17) Lead inspections of equipment and facilities prior to mission operations and/or launch operations therefore guaranteeing mission readiness
18) Audit Work Orders (daily) for accuracy and profitability prior to concurrence and completion for invoicing
19) Serve as a 24/7 POC for emergency situations and operations
20) Track, audit, sign and approve weekly timesheets.
21) Identify, schedule, and track completion of all technician training, including but not limited to all NASA, Federal, State, and company requirements
22) Attend and provide accurate shop and facility-related inputs in all daily, weekly, and monthly required meetings
23) Serve as the primary contact with logistics, and coordinate/maintain an inventory system that emphasizes efficiency, accuracy, and material security
24) Perform and delegate duties as DAC (Department Action Coordinator) for Hurricane Planning and act as an Alternate/Backup for the DHC (Department Head Coordinator) position
25) Perform all other related duties as assigned by management
Education and Experience Requirements
• Ten (10) years' Supervisor, Management or Leadership experience in Project, Workload or Construction Management and/or Maintenance or a related field
• Bachelor's Degree (BS/BA); or five (5) years related experience in Mechanical Systems projects (scheduling, coordinating, executing maintenance tasks or planning & estimating)
• Project Management Professional (PMP), Facility Management Professional (FMP) or Certified Construction Manager (CCM) is desired
• Ability to obtain all relevant FEMA certifications
• Ability to obtain all relevant specialty certifications/licenses, varies upon direct responsibilities
• Experience with union relations (Collective Bargaining Agreements)
• Good communication, administrative and computer skills (MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint). Experience and/or trained in the use of a work management tool such as Maximo, Akwire or similar software desired
• Position may require travel

Required Minimum Position Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Ability to exercise sound judgement and reason.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instruction, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to read and understand schematics & blueprints.
• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
• Must possess general knowledge of office routines to include scheduling, general office administration, and a working knowledge of standard computer software.
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
Other Requirements:
• Must be a U.S. citizen and be able to obtain and maintain required Government clearances/badges as required by program and position
• Must have the ability to communicate in English, both verbal and written in an effective manner.
• Must have and maintain a valid driver's license.
Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands:
• Must have dexterity to perform all duties required (office/field locations) by the position to include (but not limited to), standing, walking, using hands, stretching, stooping, kneeling, etc.
• Must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus.
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, extreme heat, and vibration.
• The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions; extreme cold; and risk of electrical shock.
• In some cases, work sites may be very loud, use of hearing protection may be required.
