Summary:
We are seeking a System Administrator VI to support the Department of the Interior (DOI)/Indian Affairs (IA) in modernizing backup infrastructure, enhancing data management, and ensuring disaster recovery (DR) and Continuity of Operations (COOP).
Responsibilities
Essential Job Functions:
- Manage NetApp and Nimble storage arrays as primary enterprise storage solutions.
- Oversee snapshot capability, deduplication, and replication of production data to the Sioux Falls (SDC) data center.
- Ensure CommVault NDMP backups of CIFS shares replicated from Windows file servers.
- Archive tape backups to Iron Mountain for retention compliance.
- Support future enhancements, including load balancing applications and data between ADC and SDC, enabling both as hot sites for one another.
- Administer Windows and Linux networks in an enterprise environment.
- Manage a 95% virtualized Windows network using VMware, Flash, and Hybrid Storage Arrays.
- Perform system administration tasks for DNS, DHCP, Active Directory (AD), and IIS.
- Configure file storage shares/folders with appropriate ACL permissions for new and migrated data.
- Utilize advanced storage and replication technologies to ensure full backups, COOP, and DR.
- Conduct server backups and monitor backup performance.
- Execute file restoration in response to Service Center requests.
- Rotate and store backup tapes following OIMT procedures, integrating tape backup activities into DR planning.
- Ensure data backup and transfer to the OIMT-designated COOP facility per DOI regulations.
Qualifications
Necessary Skills and Knowledge:
- Extensive expertise in data backup, recovery, and system administration at the server/data center level.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft and Linux operating systems, including Microsoft enterprise solutions.
- In-depth knowledge of project management documentation and resource optimization.
- Ability to work independently, initiate projects, and serve as an SME for IT projects.
- Skilled in performance tuning, hardware upgrades, operational configurations, and Tier II/III support.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Associate degree or technical certificate from an accredited institute.
- 5+ years of related technical and managerial experience in IT environments at the server/data center level.
- Expert-level knowledge of Microsoft enterprise solutions.
- Proven ability to develop project documentation and lead technology initiatives independently.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related field.
- Industry certifications, such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator, CompTIA Security+, VMware Certified Professional (VCP), or Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA).
- Experience in enterprise backup solutions, including CommVault, NetApp, Nimble storage arrays, or Iron Mountain archival processes.
- Familiarity with load balancing techniques for high-availability environments.
- Expertise in disaster recovery planning and COOP strategies for large-scale government networks.
- Previous experience working in a federal IT environment, particularly DOI or other government agencies.
