Position Overview
The Shift Manager for 24/7 Operations Support (OS) is responsible for leading and supervising mission-critical operations during assigned shifts in support of the United States Space Force (USSF) Space Command and Control (Space C2) program. This individual will oversee real-time monitoring, incident response, and Tier 1/2 service operations to maintain continuous system availability for space operations.
The Shift Manager will serve as the primary operational leader during their assigned shift, ensuring rapid response to incidents, effective personnel coordination, and compliance with operational procedures. This position requires technical expertise, strong leadership skills, and experience managing teams in a classified IT or mission-critical operations environment.
Key Attributes
1) The Advanced Tracking and Launch Analysis System (ATLAS) program is the Pentagon’s latest effort to replace the 1980s-era Space Defense Operations Center (SPADOC) computer system for managing data from the military’s network of radar and telescopes that detect and track objects in orbit.
2) Candidates must be familiar and worked in a 24/7 Network Operations Center (NOC), or Infrastructure & Operations (I&O) environment, and a hybrid cloud environment.
3) Ideal candidates will have worked in Space Force, Air Force, other Dept of Defense branches, or Dept of State.
Key Responsibilities
• Shift Leadership & Personnel Management: Supervise and direct 24/7 Operations Support teams during assigned shifts.
• Incident Management & Operational Response: Oversee ATLAS monitoring system alerts, assess criticality, and coordinate responses.
• Performance Monitoring & Agile Reporting: Track shift performance metrics, system uptime, and incident resolution times.
• Training & Development: Mentor Tier 1 and Tier 2 personnel to enhance technical proficiency.
• Security & Compliance Oversight: Ensure compliance with DoD security policies and classified information handling procedures.
Required Background
1. Clearance Requirements
- Active TS/SCI security clearance
- SAP/SAR eligibility preferred
2. Shift Responsibilities
- Provide leadership and coordination for assigned 24/7 operational shifts
- Ensure continuous monitoring and escalation of alerts through ATLAS
- Manage Tier 1/2 support teams and act as initial incident escalation point
- Maintain situational awareness and communicate key updates during shift handovers
3. Reporting & Documentation
- Document shift activities, incidents, and actions taken
- Track JIRA tickets and update Agile dashboards
- Contribute to PMRs and operational debriefs with performance metrics
4. Security & Compliance
- Ensure adherence to all security protocols for personnel and systems
- Support enforcement of access controls and classified operations readiness
Preferred Qualifications
• ITIL v4 or PMP Certification.
• Experience with Space C2, ATLAS monitoring system, or similar mission-critical platforms.
• Previous shift management experience within a DoD or USSF IT operations contract.
• Knowledge of cybersecurity compliance and classified network policies.
Work Location & Shift Requirements
Onsite role at Vandenberg Space Force Base (VSFB), CA. 24/7 rotational shift coverage, including weekends and holidays. May require occasional travel to support training, planning sessions, or operational reviews.
