Job Summary:

We are currently seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer with a passion for hands on work to join the Janus in-plant Engineering team in Sterling, VA.

What You Will Do:

The Janus engineering team designs and integrates optical sensors into unique automated systems to perform research and development for our customer in fielded environments. The Senior Mechanical Engineer will execute all aspects of the systems' mechanical engineering discipline, to include system design support, build, integration and test, training, deployment and sustainment activities for systems developed under the Janus program. Additionally, the Senior Mechanical Engineer will perform engineering activities such as: supporting the development of system test requirements; planning, execution and analysis in support of system integration and verification; hardware-in-the-loop testing; technical support for deployed sensor systems.The Principal Mechanical Engineer will perform a variety of hands-on technically challenging assignments which will directly contribute to protecting our nation.

CONUS/OCONUS travel to support systems in the field and customer tests required.

Qualifications You Must Have:

8+ years of relevant engineering experience

Ability to travel periodically to suppliers, manufacturing facilities, and customer sites to support programs (up to 25%)

U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position needs the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance, with eligibility for Top Secret/SCI with CI Polygraph.

B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar STEM degree.

Qualifications We Prefer:

Engineering experience with demonstrated knowledge in electro-mechanical systems design, build, integration, and test

CAD experience with software such as PTC Creo (Pro-E) and SolidWorks

Ability to apply basic principles, theories, and concepts within the mechanical engineering field.

Conducting system/subsystem mechanical performance analysis and developing technical performance risk mitigation strategies.

Detailed mechanical design of cross-platform systems, subsystems and components with multiple communications protocols in a networked environment.

Capable of generating detailed systems design documentation.

Ability to assemble, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical and electronic systems.

Experience working in cross discipline teams.

Solid modeling (preferably CREO).

Experience with testing of electronics to military environments (MIL-STD-810).

Finite element analysis (preferably Abaqus).

Experience with low-level programing in both Windows and Linux environments for embedded systems utilizing microcontrollers or PLCs.

Experience with networks

Design of electro-mechanical automated system for harsh environments.

Ability to analyze issues and define solutions.

Ability to perform trade studies to optimize system performance.

Microsoft Office applications, to include MS Visio and MS Project.

Master's degree in Engineering, or related STEM degree

The salary range for this role is 112,000 USD - 224,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company's performance.

This role is a U.S.-based role. If the successful candidate resides in a U.S. territory, the appropriate pay structure and benefits will apply.
