The Alaka`ina Foundation Family of Companies (FOCs) is looking for a Junior Systems Administrator to support our government customer located in Kekaha, Hawai'i .

Provides technical based oversight and management of systems administration and information assurance activities related to the PMRF range systems. Provides entry level Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) or Windows Modern Desktop, Windows Servers administration for all Clients and Servers connected to the Pacific Missile Range Facility (PMRF) classified and unclassified networks. Deploys Cyber Security mandated system upgrades, system patches, and system security lockdown requirements. Performs system wide troubleshooting and problem resolution in a live mission environment.

DESCRIPTION OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provide entry level systems administration for all clients, servers, and peripherals connected to the classified and unclassified PMRF networks.
  • Deploy, configure, and maintain systems, including software installation, updates, upgrades, patching, and core services related to Linux or Windows workstations, servers, and applications.
  • Implement DISA STIG secure configuration requirements to applicable workstations, servers and applications.
  • Manage users and groups, including use of a centralized directory for authentication.
  • Configure local storage using partitions and logical volumes.
  • Create and configure file systems and file system attributes, such as permissions, encryption, access control lists, and network file systems.
  • Operate systems, including booting into different run levels, identifying processes, starting and stopping virtual machines, and controlling services.
  • Support for application installation, licenses management, software tracking/distribution and backup/recovery of system configurations and user data files
  • Maintain up-to-date Configuration Control and adhere to all Configuration Management requirements for all firmware, software, and hardware associated with the classified and unclassified PMRF networks.
  • Understand and use essential tools for handling files, directories, command-line environments, and documentation.
  • Prepare and submit status reports, and technical briefs, as required, to supervisor, senior management, and customers.
  • Use automated installation methods and system imaging (e.g., MECM, VMware)
  • Usage of cryptographic log-on methods (e.g., PKI)
  • Analysis, design, and implementation of modifications to the system software in order to improve system performance by correcting errors.
  • Participation in planning new hardware acquisitions, interacting with vendors, educating customers, and communicating and collaborating with other projects within the organization.
  • Using shell scripting to automate system maintenance tasks.
  • Perform system asset/property accountability and license management within specifications of PMRF contract.
  • Assist and support lab environment testing/buildouts with senior team members.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Supervisor.
  • Candidate must be capable of working in a team environment and participate in technical and system administrative activities throughout project life cycles.

Lifting/Pulling/Pushing: Over 50 lbs.

Positions: walking or standing, crawling, kneeling, repeated stooping, sitting, and work requiring repeated or frequent stair climbing

Environmental: Customer Contact, Extended Workday, Confined Work Area, Office Laboratory, Field Assignment, Inclement Weather

REQUIRED DEGREE/EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION: (subject to change based on industry, DoD, or local policy requirements)
  • A.S. Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, MIS or another related scientific field
  • DOD 8570.1M IAT Level II required prior to start.
  • One of the following OS Certifications required prior to start:
    • Linux+ or Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA)
    • Current Microsoft Windows Server certification, e.g., AZ-104 Azure Administrator Associate

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Two (2) years' experience in the specific field of assignment or similar discipline
  • Knowledge of IT systems, including Windows Modern Desktop, RHEL, and infrastructure concepts - Windows Server and/or VMware certifications are considered a plus.
  • Knowledge of Cyber Security Methods and Techniques considered a plus.
  • Must be proficient in operating personal computers, computer software and standard office equipment.
  • Must have basic keyboarding skills and aptitude for neatness and accuracy in sorting.
  • Knowledge of Cyber Security Methods and Techniques considered a plus.
  • Critical thinking - Proven problem solver
  • Good written and oral communication skills are required including the ability to organize.

REQUIRED CITIZENSHIP AND CLEARANCE:
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • Top Secret security clearance is required. (Applicants selected either must currently possess a Top Secret clearance or will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements to obtain clearance prior to commencement of employment and maintain a security clearance for access to classified information or Closed/Restricted Areas throughout duration of employment.)
