The Leidos National Security Sector is seeking a Surveillance Towed Array Sensory System (SURTASS) Field Engineer to assist Japanese Maritime Self Defense Force (JMSDF) onboard Japanese Auxiliary Ocean Surveillance (J-AOS) vessels. Candidate shall assist JMSDF personnel in the operation and maintenance of the SURTASS technology 24 hours a day while at-sea and at a minimum of eight (8) hours a day while in port.

The Leidos National Security Sector is seeking a Surveillance Towed Array Sensory System (SURTASS) Field Engineer to assist Japanese Maritime Self Defense Force (JMSDF) onboard Japanese Auxiliary Ocean Surveillance (J-AOS) vessels. Candidate shall assist JMSDF personnel in the operation and maintenance of the SURTASS technology 24 hours a day while at-sea and at a minimum of eight (8) hours a day while in port.
As a member of the SURTASS team, you will be responsible for the following:
- Assisting in the operation and maintenance of electronic equipment utilizing common and specialized tools in repair and maintenance of electro/mechanical equipment, test equipment, manufacturers' manuals, schematic diagrams and government procedures to operate and repair electro/mechanical equipment.
- Preparation of all required reports; assist in compiling data, procedures and manuals, and ensure proper upkeep of records and logs.
- Act as a liaison with the JMSDF Kure Repair and Supply Facility (K-RSF) and the Kure Array Maintenance Facility (AMF), in conjunction with Commander Naval Forces Japan (CNFJ), to help resolve repair and supply issues
- Participate in Leidos and Government safety programs, as well as the deployment and retrieval of the array and all other special tasks related to SURTASS operations.
- This position will require close cooperation and working relationships with host country active-duty military and other Government personnel.
- Berthing arrangements on board J-AOS vessels will require a stateroom and share of other facilities.
- Position requires the ability to perform in an arduous duty environment and the successful candidate must be capable of passing a Mariner's Physical per COMSCINST 6000.l.c and maintain their medical fitness for this position.
Basic Qualifications:
- Must have at least an Associate Degree in Computer Science, Electronics Technology, or a graduate of U.S. Navy Electronics “C” school or equivalent civilian electronics technical school.
- 1-3 years of combined experience in the maintenance and repair of SURTASS Subsystems, SURTASS COMM subsystems, and/or SURTASS arrays.
- Shall be cross-trained in data networks, Navigation/Acoustics, the Integrated Common Processor (ICP), and TL-29A array.
- Must be able to demonstrate the ability to work with minimum supervision, familiar with technical publications, and have the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Individuals must possess the ability and demeanor to share common spaces over lengthy deployment periods and work closely with others in a small working area and in a shipboard environment.
- Selected applicant must be proficient with personal computers and have a familiarity with operational and maintenance publications.
- Obtain valid U.S. passport in an expeditious manner, have the ability to travel, successfully complete and pass a pre-employment drug screening, and have the ability to obtain and maintain company provided travel charge cards.
- Must be capable of passing a Mariner's Physical per COMSCINST 6000.l.c and maintain their medical fitness for this position.
- Selected applicant will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
- US Citizen; Possessing an active DoD Secret Clearance required to start and ability to obtain/maintain a Top Secret upon hire.
Desired Qualifications:
- Security+ or Network+ or A+ certifications
- SURTASS Advance program training is highly desired
- Familiarity and knowledge of UNIX
- Background in EKMS/COMSEC/KMI Manager
- SHF
