ELECTRONICS TECHNICIAN, MAINTENANCE III

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The Electronics Technician Maintenance III applies advanced technical knowledge to solve complex problems that typically cannot be solved solely by referencing manufacturers' manuals or similar documents. Examples of such problems include determining the location and density of circuitry, evaluating electromagnetic radiation, isolating malfunctions, and incorporating engineering changes. Work typically requires an understanding of the interrelationships of circuits, exercising independent judgment in performing such tasks as making circuit analyses, calculating wave forms, installing wiring in aircraft for T2 Modifications, and tracing relationships in signal flow, using complex test instruments such as high frequency pulse generators, frequency synthesizers, distortion analyzers, and complex computer control equipment. Work may be reviewed by supervisor for general compliance with accepted practices. This position may provide technical guidance to lower-level technicians. May be given the responsibility for a system isolated from the direct higher-level supervisor.

OTHER DUTIES: Other functions include assisting in the orientation and training of other technicians at this level when directed by the supervisor. May be assigned additional responsibilities as a lead technician. Will perform general housekeeping and other job related tasks. May be required to handle hazardous material/hazardous waste.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Must be a technical or service school graduate in electronics and have five years' experience as an Electronic Technician. Must possess a general knowledge of electronic component characteristics to aid in the selection of replacement components and devices. Knowledge of other trades such as the mechanical skills necessary to repair and modify servo systems, pedestal-drive systems, waveguide installations, and optics associated with laser and camera systems a plus. Must be thoroughly familiar with the operation of test instruments such as oscilloscopes, signal generators, spectrum analyzers, frequency measuring equipment, and other related measure instruments. Experience: Minimum five years' experience as an Electronics Tech working in a radio frequency (RF) systems field is de- sired. Telemetry data collection or related systems experience, e.g. tracking radar, passive aircraft tracking, highly desired.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Candidates must be eligible to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance. Supports E-OMS operational objectives. Observes company Quality, Safety, Environmental, Security and Administrative policies; supports Process Improvement.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: May perform work assignments in a temperature and humidity-controlled environment. Some tasks and assignments such as the installation; operation; and maintenance of mobile systems, aircraft systems, or range instrumentation will require work performance in outside environments in heat or cold with exposure to the conditions typical of various work locations.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Required to climb, bend, stoop, lift up to 50 pounds, pull, or carry heavy items.

GENERAL DUTIES:
- The Electronics Technician, Maintenance maintains, repairs, troubleshoots, modifies and installs various types of electronic equipment and related devices such as electronic transmitting and receiving equipment (e.g., radar, radio, television, telecommunication, sonar, laser, electro-optics, infrared, telemetry, and communications systems, and navigational aids); personal and main frame computers and terminals, industrial, medical, measuring, and controlling equipment; and industrial robotic devices.
- The successful incumbent applies technical knowledge of electronics principles in determining equipment malfunctions, and applies skill in restoring equipment operation, evaluates performance and reliability of prototype or production mode, and recommends changes in circuitry or installation specifications to simplify assembly and maintenance.
- Must be qualified to operate; maintain; repair; and modify complex state-of-the-art electronic, electro-optical and electro-mechanical equipment.
- Must be systems oriented and have the ability and knowledge to consolidate component sub-systems and assemblies into a workable system.
- Required to perform with only minimum instructions or supervision.
- May be assigned additional responsibilities as a lead technician overseeing lower technicians.
- May be required to train as a Test Area Controller.
- As a Test Area Controller, will be responsible for mission setup and control.
- Job functions include installation; troubleshooting; repair; alignment; and operation of typical electronic equipment including standard and high-speed video cameras, temperature conditioning systems, computers, data systems, control systems, LAN for remote control computer systems, electro-optics, fiber-optics, and communications systems.
- Must be capable of performing job functions utilizing appropriate manuals, schematics, and other documentation.
- Required to lift, pull, or carry weight and size commensurate with job requirements.
- Some tasks and assignments will require work performance in outside environments with exposure to the conditions typical of the various work locations.
- May be required to perform software adaptations and computer troubleshooting diagnosis and repair.
- Will often be required to work extended hours and weekend work.
