Who are we?
We are Command Post Technologies, Inc. (CPT). Headquartered out of Suffolk, VA in 2008, CPT has grown to a widespread, national scale having a presence in Orlando, FL, San Diego, CA, Chicago, IL, and Norfolk, VA. CPT is a Service-Disabled, Veteran-Owned Small Business (SDVOSB), providing engineering services in the areas of Cyber Security, Software Development, Test & Evaluation, and Strategic Planning. Over the years CPT has cultivated a dynamic work environment through developing a strong culture rooted in our core principles of integrity, determination, and innovation. In all of CPT's collaboration efforts, our team prioritizes communication, accountability, and being resourceful to maximize efficiency and results.
Why is CPT offering an internship through SkillBridge?
The main reason is because we care. As a Veteran-Owned business, most of our past and present employees have served in the armed services. CPT proudly supports service members' transition to civilian careers through the DoD SkillBridge program. By offering hands-on training and mentorship, we empower military personnel to acquire valuable skills, ensuring a smooth and successful transition into the workforce while expressing our commitment to veterans' professional growth.
Who is this program for?
This program is tailored for transitioning military personnel aspiring to embark on careers in system administration, networking, and cybersecurity. Designed to facilitate a smooth transition from military service to civilian roles, the program welcomes individuals who possess a keen interest in these technology-driven fields. This initiative provides a structured learning environment in which they can develop the skills and knowledge necessary for success in system administration, networking, and cybersecurity roles. The program is committed to supporting and empowering transitioning military professionals as they navigate and excel in the dynamic landscape of information technology.
What does CPT's program offer?
Our SkillBridge program blends structured learning with hands-on experience; distinguished by our cutting-edge digital sandbox hosted with vSphere. Interns at our company have the exceptional opportunity to immerse themselves in building modern Windows server domains, configuring Red Hat Linux servers, deploying virtual network devices, and working with a diverse range of security products. This hands-on approach provides an invaluable environment for honing practical skills and gaining expertise in contemporary technologies. Through this program, interns not only acquire theoretical knowledge but also engage in real-world scenarios, preparing them for the dynamic challenges of the modern digital landscape. Our commitment to fostering a rich learning environment underscores our dedication to equipping participants with the tools and expertise needed for a successful career transition.
What does CPT expect during the internship?
During the internship, participants are expected to commit to a full-time schedule of 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, working at our corporate office in Suffolk, VA. We expect all participants to come in with an open mind, motivation, and a willingness to learn. Each intern will be expected to actively participate in lectures and self-paced, objective-based training within our advanced digital sandbox environment. Interns will have the invaluable opportunity to be proctored by industry professionals, including both systems and network architects with a combined experience of over 40 years. This mentorship ensures that interns receive guidance from seasoned experts as they engage in troubleshooting advanced system issues, providing practical insights and knowledge transfer. This comprehensive approach ensures a well-rounded learning experience, combining theoretical knowledge, practical skills, and the opportunity to apply them under the mentorship of highly experienced professionals.
Why isn't the training done on the job (OJT)?
Our goal is to train the next generation of DoD ITs. Conducting this training in a digital sandbox rather than on-the-job provides a controlled and supportive environment for interns to learn through both success and failure. In a sandbox setting, interns have the freedom to experiment, troubleshoot, and innovate without the potential risks associated with real-world operations. The goal is to allow them to make mistakes, learn from them, and refine their skills without the stress of impacting critical business operations. This approach not only fosters a culture of continuous learning but also encourages creativity and problem-solving. By providing a secure space for hands-on experience, we ensure that interns can develop a deep understanding of complex technologies, ultimately preparing them to contribute effectively in real-world scenarios once they transition into their professional roles.
