Senior Configuration Manager – DevOps Transition
Role Overview
A Configuration Management (CM) professional is needed to support a DoD team transitioning from a legacy (waterfall) development environment to a DevOps setup. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience performing CM tasks at the development team level, rather than only managing CM efforts. This role requires familiarity with software acquisition, development, and sustainment processes within DoD environments, including Agile and DevSecOps methodologies.
Key Responsibilities
• Perform configuration and release management tasks in both legacy and DevOps environments.
• Support software acquisition, development, and sustainment processes within DoD environments.
• Utilize Jira or other issue tracking tools to track and manage development workflows.
• Gain familiarity with SBOM tools for tracking software components, libraries, and dependencies to enhance security and vulnerability management.
• Work with popular SBOM tools such as Syft (by Anchore), CycloneDX Generator (cdxgen), FOSSA, Checkmarx SBOM, Microsoft SBOM Tool, OPSWAT, and Rezilion.
• Contribute to CI/CD pipelines; basic knowledge is required, with hands-on experience using tools such as Jenkins or GitLab considered a plus.
• Assist in transitioning legacy CM processes into a modern DevOps framework.
• Ensure compliance with FIAR and DoD Configuration Management standards.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
Knowledge
• Understanding of version control, change management, build automation, and release management.
• Familiarity with DoD software acquisition, development, and sustainment processes (Agile, DevSecOps).
• Experience with tools such as Subversion (SVN), media burning software (Roxio, CDBurner, etc.), and ISO creation software.
• Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD, or similar tools.
• Understanding of FIAR compliance and DoD Configuration Management standards.
• Working knowledge of Jira or other issue tracking tools.
• Understanding of military addressing formats, including FPO and APO.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite applications (Word, Excel, SharePoint, etc.).
Skills
• Ability to work closely with developers, testers, and security teams to ensure controlled and secure releases.
• Familiarity with SBOM tools and compliance requirements.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for stakeholder coordination and documentation.
Abilities
• Analyze complex configuration challenges and develop effective solutions.
• Ensure accuracy in software baselines, documentation, and compliance records.
• Work efficiently in a fast-paced, highly regulated environment with evolving security and compliance requirements.
• Assess and mitigate security risks related to software configuration and releases.
• Lead CM efforts, mentor junior team members, and coordinate with multiple teams.
• Meet the requirements to obtain an admin token.
Qualifications
• U.S. Citizen.
• Ability to obtain IAT Level II certification (Security+) within 6 months of hire.
• Active Secret Clearance (TS/SCI preferred).
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in software development for software applications.
• At least 5 years of professional experience solving technical problems, with expertise in software design, engineering concepts, and quality/safety standards.
• Experience in DoD Business IT, including supply, logistics, maintenance, and/or personnel administration systems for aviation, afloat, or shore activities.
