Saab, Inc. is searching for a dynamic Senior Supplier Quality Engineer. The Senior Supplier Quality Engineer is responsible for overseeing and managing the quality of products and services received from external suppliers, ensuring they meet established company standards by conducting supplier assessments, identifying quality issues, driving improvement plans, and collaborating with suppliers to achieve optimal quality performance, often including significant travel to supplier locations to perform on-site audits and evaluations; extensive experience in quality engineering practices, data analysis, and strong communication skills to effectively influence and guide suppliers towards continuous improvement is required.
This position is in East Syracuse with up to 50% travel depending on requirements of the program.
Key responsibilities include:
Supplier selection and evaluation: Assess potential suppliers' capabilities through technical reviews, quality system audits, and site visits to ensure they can meet quality requirements.
Supplier performance monitoring: Track supplier quality metrics like defect rates, delivery performance, and compliance to identify areas for improvement and hold suppliers accountable for quality standards.
Quality improvement initiatives: Develop and implement corrective action plans with suppliers to address quality issues, including root cause analysis and preventative measures.
Supplier development: Provide technical guidance and training to suppliers to improve their manufacturing processes and quality systems.
New product introduction: Collaborate with engineering teams to ensure new components from suppliers meet design specifications and quality requirements throughout the development process.
Incoming inspection oversight: Review and approve incoming inspection procedures and ensure proper quality checks are performed on received materials.
Non-conformance management: Investigate and resolve non-conforming product issues, including initiating corrective actions and managing supplier corrective action requests (SCARs).
Data analysis and reporting: Utilize statistical tools to analyze quality data, identify trends, and generate reports on supplier performance.
Compliance management: Ensure suppliers adhere to relevant quality standards and regulatory requirements.
Mentorship and leadership: Provide guidance and coaching to junior quality engineers on supplier quality management practices.
Compensation Range: $90,000- $112,500

Skills and Experience:
5+ years of proven experience in a supplier quality engineering role, with a strong track record of driving quality improvements.
Strong understanding of quality engineering principles and methodologies.
Must have U.S. DoD SECRET Clearance or have previously held one.
Experience with supplier quality management systems and auditing practices.
Proficiency in data analysis and statistical tools.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with suppliers at all levels.
Ability to travel to supplier locations for on-site assessments and audits.
Knowledge of relevant industry standards and regulations.
Engineering degree (mechanical, electrical, or related field) preferred.
