Job Summary

Galapagos Federal Systems LLC is seeking a highly skilled Senior Telecommunications Engineer Specialist to design and configure voice, video, and data communications systems. This role involves overseeing installations, resolving maintenance challenges, recommending system enhancements, and maintaining expertise in the latest industry advancements. The specialist will work in a fast-paced environment, collaborating with cross-functional teams to support mission-critical communications. This position requires strong problem-solving skills, a deep understanding of telecommunications infrastructure, and the ability to implement innovative solutions that optimize performance and reliability

Skills / Experience Required

Telecommunications Engineer Specialist Sr skills/experience required:

* Active Secret clearance required
* 5-7 years of hands-on experience in telecommunications engineering
* Install and configure network elements, telephony support infrastructure, VoIP instruments, and premise wiring support services
* Provide on-site infrastructure installation and maintenance support for network and telephony systems
* Maintain all network and telephony infrastructure, including communications equipment, distribution cables, terminals, and cross-connects within Area Distribution Nodes (ADN), Main Communication Nodes (MCN), and end-user buildings (EUB)
* Ensure all work complies with industry standards, including ANSI/TIA/EIA Building Telecommunications Wiring Standards, National Electrical Code, and IEEE 802.3/802.5
* Install, troubleshoot, relocate, remove, replace, or repair cables, infrastructure, and equipment while adhering to OSHA and industry standards
* Log all service requests and incidents in the work order system and close completed requests within one business day
* Configure, install, troubleshoot, repair, and replace network switch elements in end-user facilities
* Program, install, troubleshoot, repair, and replace VoIP instruments
* Install telephone termination blocks, equipment, and cross-connects
* Install POTS phones, wall phones, mine phones, and other telephony-related support equipment
* Install and terminate various cable types, including CAT-6, T1, and fiber optic, to support NIPRNET infrastructure
* Create network drops to enable telephone, VoIP, and computer system connectivity
* Perform secure cable drop installations for SIPRNet, including small-scale Protected Distribution Systems (PDS) modifications, adds, and changes for EMT or HOLOCOM-type PDS systems
* Connect and test all equipment installed as part of cable infrastructure updates
* Maintain and utilize Government-provided network, telephony, and VoIP test equipment
* Conduct thorough testing of telephony systems to ensure dial-tone availability at the work area outlet
* Troubleshoot network elements to verify full operational capability, including VoIP connectivity from network switches to work area outlets
* Enforce network security measures, IT best practices, and cybersecurity protocols
* Install and route conduit along walls and above ceilings within buildings
* Run copper and fiber optic cabling through buildings, both inside and outside conduit pathways
* Terminate copper and fiber optic cables to patch panels and connectors
* Accurately distinguish wire colors for proper installation and maintenance
* Follow detailed instructions and guidance from supervisors to ensure project success

Education / Certifications

* Bachelor's degree, preferred (computer science, information technology, or have equivalent experience)
* CEH or CFR or Cloud+ or GICSP or SSCP or Security+ or GSEC

Security Clearance

Physical Requirements

Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods of time and typing and reading from a computer screen. The candidate must have enough mobility, including bending, reaching, and kneeling, to complete daily duties in a prompt and efficient manner and that may include lifting to thirty pounds, as necessary.
