Equipment Operator

Amentum is seeking an Equipment Operator to join our team in Hawthorne, Nevada to support the Hawthorne Army Depot. The Equipment Operator reports into the Maintenance Department and will operate tractors, graders, scrapers, backhoes, road sweepers, crushers, front-end loaders, asphalt spreaders, rollers, and bulldozers to move, dig, grade, and roll earth, sand, stone, and other materials.

Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret US Government Clearance. Note: US Citizenship is required to obtain a Secret Clearance.

Essential Responsibilities:

• Perform all work safely and with the utmost concern for the safety of self and other employees.
• Perform all work in compliance with environmental permits and regulations.
• Be at work when scheduled and maintain a good attendance record.
• Work in close proximity to a demilitarization facility.
• Operates a variety of heavy equipment: tractors, graders, scrapers, backhoes, road sweepers, crushers, front-end loaders, asphalt spreaders, rollers, and bulldozers.
• Builds and maintains roads and parking lot surfaces. Breaks and clears ground for buildings or construction work. Cuts, fills, and grades surfaces. Compacts soils to exact specifications. Lays oil to engineering specifications for roads and parking areas. Shoulders roads and prepares roadbed to exact specifications for railroad repair work.
• Digs trenches to slope and grade for pipe and power line work. Operates equipment close to buildings, lightning rods, pipes, trees, and drop-offs.
• Performs rough grading of earth to general contour desired in addition to fine surfacing on flat or rolling terrain. From oral or written instructions, accomplishes work assignments without direct supervision.
• Performs operator inspections of assigned equipment, documents deficiencies on designated checklist and submits to Vehicle Maintenance for repair actions.
• Determines malfunctions, advises repairman, and prepares write-ups.
• Services equipment by replenishing items such as coolant, fuel, oil, and air as appropriate.
• Drains air tanks, filters, pumps, and segregators.

Minimum Requirements:

• Must be 18 years of age or older and obtained a High School diploma/equivalent.
• Minimum of two (2) years experience operating tractor trailers and performing related operator maintenance required.
• Must possess a valid Driver's License.
• Must have a valid State, Class A, CDL driver's license with Hazardous Materials Endorsement.
• Must maintain the valid Class A, CDL and certifications during the course of employment.
• Must be able to obtain a clearance through the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms and be favorably vetted through the NCIC III System.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret US Government Clearance. Note: US Citizenship is required to obtain a Secret Clearance.
• Must be computer literate in common software applications and able to operate general office equipment.
• Must be willing to work overtime, varying hours and/or rotating shifts.
• Must be willing and able to be at work when scheduled and maintain a good attendance record.
• Must be willing and able to work in a procedurally compliant environment.
• Must be willing and able to work in an environmental and safety compliant environment
• Must maintain fitness-for-duty standards to perform the essential functions of the position, to include any HWAD drill, contingency and/or emergency requirement.
• Ability to communicate clearly during normal and crisis situations.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain all certifications required by Amentum's Master Training Plan.
• Must be able to perform work duties routinely, in a safe and effective manner, remaining alert and aware of potential work/safety hazards at all times, and especially alert, while performing safety sensitive duties.

Desired Qualifications:

• Possess the ability to back in tractor and trailer and maneuver in tight areas in a safe manner.
• Possess the ability to make quick, sound decisions while operating machinery/moving material in accordance with applicable regulations.
• Possess general knowledge of various types of tractors, trailers, roll-offs, and other equipment.
• Possess the ability to work effectively, safely and independently while following all applicable regulations.

This position is designated as a safety sensitive position and is subject to the requirements of the HWAD Medical Surveillance Plan and Matrix and the HWAD A&D Program. As a condition of employment, candidates and incumbents must favorably complete a personnel security investigation, drug testing, medical exam, and respiratory screening, and must meet and maintain personnel suitability and reliability requirements established by 29 CFR and Army Regulations: AR 190-11, AR 190-13 and DOD Contractors Safety Manual 4145.26.
