SUMMARY:

The Maintenance Apprentice will, under the supervision of the Property Manager and Education and Cultural Programs Manager, gain on-the-job training while performing commercial property preventative maintenance and repairs as directed by the supervisor. The candidate will learn how to perform general maintenance/service work in the areas of plumbing, carpentry, electrical, painting, plastering, landscaping, snow removal, machinery upkeep, and preparing unit(s) for occupancy. All work will be done in compliance with EPA, Hazmat and OSHA safety rules and regulations. Upon completing the apprenticeship, the candidate will have gained the skills to become a Property Maintenance Specialist or other comparable positions.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Conducts all business in accordance with and knowledge of pertinent local, state, and federal safety laws, procedures, guidelines, including those of the EPA, OSHA, ADA, Fair Housing, etc.
• Regularly monitors TTC Property to identify potential issues needing attention and either addresses the issue or alerts his/her supervisor of the issue and recommends potential solutions.
• Identifies and performs maintenance needs in TTC Properties which may include the following:
o Assist in grounds work, landscaping and snow/ice removal when necessary.
o Inspect, repair or replace lights, ballasts and change breakers.
o Inspect, repair or replace windows, latches, locks, screens, hinges, shelves, baseboards, mirrors, etc.
o Replace broken glass, tiles, screens, fixtures, appliances, blinds, and locks.
o May, at times, be required to paint, interior and exterior.
o Perform carpentry work, such as fitting doors, freeing windows, replacing and
building shelves, sanding, and refinishing floors.
o Repair drywall, prep and paint.
o Learn to operate a company vehicle with snow plow during winter months.
o Repair concrete, masonry, fencing, when required.
o Be available for emergency calls for evening, weekend, and holiday coverage, if necessary.
o Responsible for stock control and utilization of maintenance materials.
o Coordinate with external maintenance personnel and work order requests, adhering to maintenance priorities.
o Clean and maintain office and working areas.
o Perform other types of repairs/maintenance as requested by his/her supervisor.
• Submit quarterly performance evaluations.
• Attend training sessions / vocational programs as agreed upon when needed.
• Assist SHS with educational and cultural activities.

NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

QUALIFICATIONS - EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND LICENSURE:

Required:

• Original Shareholder or Descendant of an Original Shareholder of The Tatitlek Corporation.
• High school diploma or GED.
• Experience in Microsoft Office Suite: Word, Excel and Outlook.
• Must have good written and oral communication skills.
• Must be able to multi-task easily, prioritize projects, and meet numerous deadlines with constant interruptions.

Preferred:

• General understanding of business/tribal operations beneficial.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Basic knowledge of hand and power tools and ability to learn new skills.
• Experience with precision measuring instruments or electronic testing devices.
• Experience performing routine commercial property maintenance.
• Ability to provide exceptional customer service to all Tatitlek employees and tenants.
• Ability to communicate information and ideas both orally and in writing so others will understand.
