Position Summary:

ANSER is seeking a Nuclear Forensics Analyst to support the Office of the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Nuclear Matters (OASD(NCB/NM)), Directorate of Nuclear Forensics, Energy, and Survivability. In this role you will perform a variety of multifaceted scientific, technical, and analytical tasks regarding the national strategic deterrent.

This position is to work onsite at the Suffolk Building in Falls Church, VA.

Day to Day Responsibilities:
  • Provide technical and policy support for the National Technical Nuclear Forensics (NTNF) Program.
  • Provide support in the area of post-detonation nuclear forensics or other nuclear focused areas such as:
    • the national nuclear stockpile;
    • nuclear weapons operations;
    • nuclear weapons detection;
    • nuclear accident/incident response;
    • national response framework (response to a nuclear-radiological incident);
    • emergency response and consequence management;
    • national-level exercises;
    • nuclear enterprise and infrastructure transformation;
    • nuclear weapons effects; nuclear weapon survivability;
    • survivability to nuclear weapon effects;
    • stockpile sustainment, including life extension activities;
    • nuclear weapon program requirements;
    • HEMP/EMP defense;
    • radiation detection and dispersal defense initiatives
  • Work and coordinate with interagency NTNF partners, in particular DOE/NNSA, DOS, DHS, the FBI and the Intelligence Community.
  • Work with DoD, national laboratories, and industry to develop research and development projects that support the transition of new technologies into operational DoD capabilities.
  • Provide technical analysis for on-going and planned R&D efforts funded by the DoD.
  • Provide support to DoD Nuclear Threat Reduction activities under the Mutual Defense Agreement and may contribute to or prepare joint NNSA/DoD reports for delivery to the President and/or to the Congress.
  • Prepare and disseminates agenda, meeting materials and meeting summaries. Reserve meeting space, ensures attendee access, and other administrative aspects.
  • All other duties as assigned.


Required Qualifications:
  • Active Top Secret security clearance with the ability to obtain an SCI
  • Bachelor's degree in a related policy, science or engineering field, such as nuclear engineering, physics, chemistry, metallurgy, or a closely related discipline.
  • 3 or more year's progressive experience in either nuclear weapons systems, nuclear cooperation programs, nuclear forensics, and/or knowledge of DoD capabilities to Combat Weapons of Mass Destruction (C-WMD).

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Masters' degree in a related science or engineering field, such as nuclear engineering, physics, chemistry, metallurgy, or a closely related discipline.
  • Ability to develop and deliver presentations at high levels
  • Policy expert level experience in the area of technical nuclear forensics programs
  • Familiarity with federal and/or DoD budgeting and acquisition process
  • Ability to communicate technical, operational, and policy level concepts both verbally and in writing
  • Excellent organizational and task management skills.
  • Experience in working with teams and working in groups from multiple agencies.
