Amentum is seeking a Nuclear Safety Hazards Analyst who will focus on performing analysis and unreviewed safety question (USQ) reviews for planned upgrades, projects, and other routine and emergent work. Position is flexible and can work remote from any location.
As part of our team, you will work in an analytical environment with other nuclear safety analysis, engineering, operations, and maintenance staff members, supporting cross-disciplinary teams. You will have the opportunity to collaborate with a diverse set of backgrounds both inside and outside the organization! The successful candidate will have a strong background in a relevant engineering field or nuclear operations experience. In this role, you should also be able to provide review and analysis for engineering projects and nuclear safety basis documents.
Major Duties/Responsibilities:
Preparation and maintenance of the safety basis documents, including the Safety Analysis Report (SAR), Documented Safety Analysis (DSA), Technical Safety Requirements (TSRs), fuel shipping container Safety Analysis Reports for Packaging (SARP), and Probabilistic Risk Assessment (PRA).
Perform analysis, testing, and research to support the projects.
Application of the USQ process
Perform research and/or testing needed to validate safety analysis assumptions or controls.
Basic Qualifications:
A BS degree in engineering or a related field with 5 or more years of relevant experience.
At least 1 year of nuclear experience.
Must be organized, diligent, and sensitized to a nuclear safety culture.
Preferred Qualifications:
An advanced degree in a relevant field.
Familiarity and experience with 10 CFR 830 Subparts A and B and the USQ process.
Experience at a commercial, research, or naval reactor.
NRC/DOE regulatory experience and/or past interaction with regulators.
Experience using DOE toolbox or other relevant analysis codes and programs, such as ANSYS, COMSOL, MACCS2, MELCOR, ORIGEN, RELAP5, RISKMAN, SCALE, etc.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently and to participate creatively in collaborative teams across the laboratory.
Ability to function well in a fast-paced research environment, set priorities to accomplish multiple tasks on time and adapt to evolving needs.
