The ideal candidate will provide hardware and software engineering support for embedded software, software interfaces, cryptographic systems and interoperability in sensor, weapon, host platform, and communications and command and control systems: including software analysis, Commercial Off-The-Shelf and Government Off-The-Shelf interfacing and performance analysis, software architecture review, software development processes, configuration management processes and tools assessment, and software test systems and capabilities.

GENERAL FUNCTION:
  • Apply knowledge of DoD, AF, and common engineering/scientific principles to improve weapon system performance and sustainability.
  • Apply MIL-HDBK-516C Airworthiness Certification Criteria; support System Integrity Programs; monitor airworthiness certification for mission partner aircraft.
  • Assist in translating user requirements into weapons system requirements; support technical/mission analyses, system concepts, design trade-offs, and safety engineering.
  • Assist in material solution analyses and design reviews; develop documentation as needed for cost, schedule, and performance limits.
  • Assist in translating user requirements into system requirements for system, subsystem, and equipment design and evaluation.
  • Review and produce technical evaluations, engineering studies, reports, and acquisition strategies like ICD, ORD, SRD, SEP, and other technical documents.
  • Support the development of technical data and inputs for milestone approvals and executive briefings.
  • Assist in the preparation of documents for milestone approval coordination.
  • Support project team meetings and reviews (e.g., SRR, PDR, CDR).
  • Analyze and assist in resolving equipment and software deficiencies.
  • Evaluate recommendations for operational and support issues from prime and subcontractors.
  • Assist in developing engineering cost estimates for IMP, IMS, and SEDS.
  • Provide advisory support during weapon system contractor source selections.
  • Ensure OSS&E through disciplined engineering activities, following LCSE and OSS&E AFIs.
  • Implement and maintain OSS&E compliance; assist in updating the OSS&E baseline document and progress reporting.
  • Support the SEP implementation and advise of shortfalls for corrective actions.
  • Participate in AFSO21 performance improvement events, applying best engineering practices.
  • Translate production and operational requirements into design, testing, and manufacturing objectives.
  • Manage configuration management, risk management, and support design reviews, audits, and technical reviews.
  • Assist in producing and reviewing technical evaluations, engineering studies, and acquisition plans.
  • Support milestone preparation and engineering evaluation of operational and support issues.
  • Apply OSS&E and airworthiness processes, providing risk assessments, safety analysis, and recommendations.
  • Demonstrate software engineering knowledge to support design, development, testing, maintenance, and administration of software systems.
  • Apply understanding of systems acquisition, hardware/software integration, systems requirements, and software assurance practices.
  • Review and develop relevant software engineering documentation and support the creation of Software Development Plans (SDP).
  • Apply knowledge of aeronautical systems and avionics to support software engineering tasks.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • MA Degree and more than 10 years of related experience, OR, BA Degree and more than 15 years of experience related to the position requirements.
  • Must possess and maintain a government security clearance at the Secret level.
  • Must be proficient in the use of Microsoft programs (including Excel, Word, Outlook)
  • Must be able to transport self to various facility sites, as required. If using own motor vehicle, must possess a valid driver's license and proof of insurance.
