Program Overview

About The Role

Peraton is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to support the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) by improving their rapid-capability delivery process. The team will provide expertise in research and development, systems engineering, mission development, modeling and simulation, as well as ground and flight operations. Their focus will be on both large and small space technology experiments, with a primary goal of integrating sensors and payloads into a government provided satellite bus.

What you'll do:
  • Design and analyze thermal management systems for satellite buses and payloads
  • Integrate thermal systems into the satellite bus, ensuring compatibility with other subsystems and payloads
  • Design structural components for satellite buses, including payload interfaces, support structures, and mounting mechanisms, ensuring they meet spacecraft load requirements.
  • Collaborate with other engineering disciplines to ensure structural integrity and compatibility with satellite systems
  • Design and integrate mechanisms. Perform mechanical testing and validation of mechanisms to ensure reliable operation in the space environment
  • Provide guidance and expertise in mechanical engineering to design complex mechanical equipment and systems, and to investigate, evaluate and develop new applications for existing equipment and systems.
  • Determines theoretical principles involved in applying advanced analytical and investigative methods and techniques.
  • Supervises and coordinates technicians in fabrication and installation of complex mechanical and related electronic equipment and systems. May direct field operation and maintenance activities of mechanical equipment/systems installations.
  • Evaluates operational systems and designs modification to eliminate causes of malfunctions or changes in system requirements.
  • Provides technical guidance to personnel involved with producing design fabrication drawings. Reviews and corrects drawings to ensure proper engineering techniques and required specifications have been utilized.
  • Develops, releases, and maintains documentation in accordance with company and contractual requirements. Reviews, writes, and edits reports such as evaluation plans, test results, technical manuals, etc. to provide recommendations, conclusions, and other data.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • 12+ years of experience with a Bachelors degree; OR 10+ years of experience with a Masters degree; OR 7+ years of experience with a Ph.D.; OR 16+ years of experience in lieu of degree
  • Proven experience in thermal management systems
  • Experience with the integration of mechanical systems for launch vehicle integration, including mechanisms, deployment systems, and payload interfaces
  • Hands-on experience in flight hardware development for satellite subsystems (thermal, structural, mechanisms) through the entire lifecycle, from concept to test to integration
  • Experience in structural and thermal analysis, testing, and validation
  • Familiarity with mechanisms design and integration, ensuring correct deployment and mechanical integrity in space environments
  • Local to Albuquerque, New Mexico with the ability to work on-site
  • This position requires the candidate possess a minimum of Top-Secret clearance with the ability to obtain TS/SCI. The candidate must maintain the clearance

Details

Target Salary Range: $112,000 - $179,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
