Kratos is seeking a Software Quality Engineer for SATCOM and Space Ground Resource Management Systems for projects and programs of varying size and complexity. The Software Quality Engineer will work on developmental and operational projects and programs and be part of the cross functional teams assigned to meet the contractual software quality requirements of the projects and programs.
The Software Quality Engineer will oversee the software processes within our software development lifecycle for our project and program teams. They will work in coordination and compliance with Configuration Management. In this role, the Software Quality Engineer will be responsible for ensuring our software development processes are being executed per our Software Development and Quality processes, meeting Kratos' software quality standards. This role includes reviewing and providing inputs to the DevOps process and tools, supporting code reviews, performing software quality audits, and helping maintain and improve our Configuration Management and Software Development and Quality processes.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in software quality engineering, DevOps processes and tools, excellent leadership and communication skills, and a passion for delivering high-quality software solutions.

The grade-based pay range for this job is listed below. Individual salaries within that range are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to education, experience, knowledge, and skills.
Competitive salary based on experience and education
Salary Range: $120,000-$160,000

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
- Supports the organization with initial compliance and ongoing preparation, testing and monitoring of the software development to ensure the software deliverable has been developed and tested in accordance with Kratos' ISO defined standards.
- Performs evaluation of internal controls, communications, risk assessments and maintenance of documentation as related to compliance with internal and external software quality and regulatory standards.
- Identifies risk and evaluates deficiencies while working with internal departments/business units to appropriately remedy them.
- Facilitates internal training on software quality requirements, processes, and procedures.
- Will perform Software Quality audits and may perform risk assessments
- Oversees software requirements testing and audits
- Ensuring adherence to Kratos Quality standards, ISO9001 and AS9100 standards as appropriate
- Supports and may actively participate in critical internal and external milestone deliverables (SRR, PDR, CDR, TRR, on-site audits)
- Ensuring the appropriate software design reviews are conducted and documented
- Ensuring proper documentation of software baseline and changes, corrective actions and root cause analyses are executed
- Addressing non-conformances, ensuring corrective actions are properly executed
- Interfacing with customer on quality issues (FRB, quality compliance issues, ...)
- Ensure software development on projects and programs adhere to the Software Development Process
Experience and Skills
- BS in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or relevant STEM field, with at least 5 years relevant work experience (willing to consider a range of work and educational levels)
- 5+ years experience with Software QA/QE responsible duties
- Supporting and working with diverse functionally integrated teams, working with multiple engineering disciplines, and other functional organizations
- Experience with Agile development practices and processes, including defining and maintaining metrics and associated audit methodologies
- Supporting new system readiness activities, to include Design Reviews, testing, and coordinating and participating in operational support of launch events
- Hosting and/or supporting meetings, ranging from technical working groups to quarterly program status reviews
- Hosting and or leading external Software Quality audits
- Leading internal Software Quality audits for projects and systems, ensuring software quality processes and procedures are followed and corresponding standards are met
- Reviewing requirement validation test plans and procedures to ensure compliance
- Tracking and leading software issue resolution
- Ensuring the appropriate software design reviews are conducted and documented
- Ensuring proper documentation of changes (ECNs), corrective actions and root cause analyses are executed
- Addressing non-conformances, ensuring corrective actions are properly executed
- Interfacing with customer on quality issues (FRB, quality compliance issues, ...)
- Ensuring validation/qualification documentation has been properly followed and appropriately reviewed and signed off
- Self-motivated and comfortable with supporting multiple groups of developers, engineers, and testers.
- Articulate technical concepts orally and in written forms both internally to the team as well as externally to the customer and users
- Serve as the primary point of contact, internally and externally, for software quality engineering related queries and issues
- Conducting and or supporting CCBs and RCCAs for relevant software issues
- Travel as required to support a project ~ 10% travel
- Must have a minimum of a Secret Clearance and an ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Leading Software Quality Assurance & Engineering activities for satellite and communication systems
- System planning and scheduling of assets and personnel to support projects with software development
- Microsoft products and scheduling
- Supporting programs through SRR, PDR, CDR, MRR, FAT, SAT or equivalent design reviews and acceptance testing
- Experience with DevOps/Build pipeline tools, including but not limited to Jira, BitBucket (or similar), Bamboo (or similar), and Nexus (or similar)
- Coordination and communication with customers for software quality requirements
- Cost of Quality (COQ) and Cost of Poor Quality (COPQ)
- Quality Management Systems (QMS)
- Experience in SATCOM and Satellite Ground Requirements Management and or the Defense and Airspace industry
- Familiarity with automated test scripting and tools (e.g., Bamboo)
- Familiarity with software development and Product Life Cycle Tools (e.g., Git, Atlassian, Artifactory, Bitbucket, CMPro, etc.)
- Familiarity with Cloud Technologies (AWS, Azure, OpenStack,...)
- Familiarity with container deployment technologies (Docker/Kubernetes)
- Experience with CI/CD pipeline
