Overview
Technical Writer (JXN 2025-22561):
Bowhead seeks a Technical Writer/Editor to support the Expeditionary Warfare (JXN) - Small Arms Division at the Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC). Technical writing support to prepare, review, revise, and maintain technical documentation that incorporates information and data from Program Office, customer, end user, project leads, and SMEs.

Technical writing support to prepare, review, revise, and maintain technical documentation that incorporates information and data from Program Office, customer, end user, project leads, and SMEs.
Responsibilities
Essential functions will include:
- Developing diagrams, charts, and graphs to enhance and increase the end user's understanding.
- Manipulating graphics, charts, diagrams, etc. to be included in documentation.
- Editing and reviewing rough drafts for format, clarity, and adherence to editorial and government specifications.
- Creating and maintaining templates, DTDs, EDDs, read/write rules, and structure applications.
- Participating in project meetings, as well as validation/verifications.
- Tracking documentation for developing, planning, and scheduling purposes.
- Collaborating with SMEs to ensure technical content is accurate, easy to understand, and consistent.
- Immediately communicating obstacles or issues to leadership.
- Interfacing with desktop publishers, logisticians, multimedia personnel, SMEs, and customer.
- Maintaining records.
- Participation in Validation / Verification Events
- Recording and distributing meeting minutes.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Associate's degree and three (3) to five (5) years of experience in proof reading, editing and formatting of technical documentation ensuring it is accurate, complete, and meets editorial and Government specifications.
- Master's Degree in any feild preferred. Background with technical writing or Ordnance and Non-Ordnance related Instructions and Standard Operating Procedures.
- A self-starter who is comfortable working individually, as well as being a team player who understands the importance of teamwork, collaboration, and open communication
- Strong familiarity of military supply chain processes and product life-cycle management.
- Expert level skills in Microsoft Office software suite - Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint
- Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees and outside contacts
- Strong interpersonal skills and good judgment with the ability to work alone or as part of a team
Physical Demands:
- Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds
- Must be able to stand and walk for prolonged amounts of time
- Must be able to twist, bend and squat periodically
