About this position: We are seeking a skilled Database Performance Engineer to support the development and optimization of our Target State Architecture (TSA). This role involves defining data capture requirements, creating tools and configurations for data collection, and analyzing production data. Responsibilities include Oracle database performance tuning (PL/SQL, SQL, and schema optimization), implementing materialized views for complex queries, and transitioning database audits to flat files. Additionally, you will assist in re-platforming applications onto a lightweight application server, deploying test applications in the new environment, and identifying resource locking and concurrency controls.
Ideal candidates will have strong expertise in database performance tuning, query optimization, and application deployment in modern server environments.
Experience Levels:
Salary Range : 90k - 130k - commensurate with candidate's skills, experience, location, and qualifications.
On a day-to-day basis you will :
Define Data Capture Requirements: Identify key data points necessary for analysis, performance monitoring, and optimization. Establish criteria for data collection to ensure accuracy and relevance. Develop Target State Architecture (TSA): Design and document the future-state architecture with a clear approach to data metrics, correlation, and performance measurement. Create Tool Commands & Configurations: Develop scripts, configurations, and automation tools to streamline data capture and analysis. Capture & Analyze Production Data: Gather real-time production data, monitor system performance, and identify trends or potential bottlenecks. Optimize Oracle Database Performance: Perform PL/SQL, SQL, and schema code tuning to enhance database efficiency, reduce query execution time, and improve overall performance. Implement Materialized Views: Design and deploy materialized views to optimize and accelerate complex queries, improving data retrieval speed. Migrate Database Audits to Flat Files: Transition database audit logs from internal storage to flat files for improved efficiency and easier data management. Support Application Re-Platforming: Assist in migrating applications to a lightweight application server to improve scalability and performance. Deploy & Test Applications in a New Environment: Set up, configure, and validate applications in the new application server environment to ensure stability and functionality. Identify & Address Resource Locking & Concurrency Issues: Analyze and resolve database locking and concurrency challenges to prevent performance degradation and ensure system reliability.

- Database Administrator IV: 5-8 years of relevant experience

On a day-to-day basis you will :
Required Education/Qualifications :
- Clearance: MUST be fully adjudicated & maintain a Secret security clearance or higher.
- Certifications : Security+ CE required
- Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) Certified Architect Associate/Professional preferred
- Education : Degree in Computer Science or an equivalent major.
- Oracle Database Administration - Hands-on experience managing Oracle 12c/19c/21c in enterprise environments.
- Performance Tuning & Optimization - Expertise in AWR, SQL Execution Plan analysis, PL/SQL tuning, and schema code cleanup.
- Data Capture & Metrics Definition - Define data types, metrics, and data correlation approaches for Target State Architecture (TSA).
- Materialized Views Implementation - Optimize complex queries using materialized views.
- Database Auditing & Logging - Migrate database audit logs to flat files for efficiency.
- Data Access & Schema Management - Support middleware development teams with schema versioning, DDL/DML code review, and data access administration.
- Concurrency & Resource Locking - Identify and resolve resource locking and concurrency issues.
- Re-platforming & Testing - Assist in re-platforming to a lightweight application server and deploying test applications.
Preferred Qualifications :
- Oracle Cloud (OCI) & Exadata - Familiarity with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) and Oracle Exadata for cloud-based deployments.
- Automation & Scripting - Experience in automating database administration tasks using shell scripting or PL/SQL.
- Middleware & Application Server Support - Experience supporting deployment and testing in a new application server environment.
