We are seeking an experienced Senior Network Engineer to join our team in San Diego, CA. You will apply knowledge and expertise to perform technical engineering support and analysis of satellite and ground network infrastructures for the Mobile User Objective System (MUOS).
Responsibilities
As a Senior Network Engineer with us, you be supporting the Department of Defense (DoD), specifically the U.S. Space Force/Space Systems Command (SSC)/CGN MUOS program office playing a critical role in ensuring the success of narrowband satellite communication systems. Your expertise in satellite communications and network engineering will be leveraged to support the development and sustainment of these vital space-based assets. Your responsibilities will encompass a broad spectrum of engineering activities, including the design, implementation, and management of complex networks. You will analyze system requirements, conduct reviews of hardware and software designs, and provide technical recommendations to inform program decisions. Effective communication and collaboration skills are paramount, as you will interact with a diverse team of engineers and stakeholders. Given the dynamic nature of the space industry, a commitment to continuous learning and maintaining awareness of emerging technologies and trends is essential for professional growth and success in this role.
Your key responsibilities will include but may not be limited to:
Satellite Communications Expertise:
- Experience in satellite communication systems (protocols, ground infrastructure).
- Understanding of space-based network security standards.
- Experience with ground station operations.
- Knowledge of space industry standards.
Network Engineering & Management:
- Designing, optimizing, troubleshooting, and managing hardware/software in a multi-enclave network.
- Leading network architecture design, analysis, testing, and hardware implementation.
- Network design and development (modification and improvement).
- Expertise in network design, implementation, and troubleshooting.
- Knowledge in network protocols, security standards, and performance optimization.
- Experience with network monitoring tools and technologies.
- Participation in modeling, simulation, and analysis of network system performance.
- Participate in developing/reviewing operational procedures for network management, mission planning, and network handover.
Systems Engineering & Integration:
- Strong ability to analyze requirements (hardware and software technical baselines).
- Reviewing hardware and software designs (spacecraft and ground station).
- Providing recommendations on systems integration and engineering baseline changes.
- Assessing technical maturity and risk of development projects.
- Providing technical oversight and recommendations related to testing and validation.
- Reviewing test reports.
- Assessing and integrating engineering activities across multiple projects and program areas.
- Assisting the Government in analyzing contractor concept designs.
Communication & Collaboration:
- Preparing, reviewing, and editing reports and briefings.
- Attending project meetings and reviews.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
- Ability to lead and mentor junior engineers.
Analytical & Problem-Solving Skills & Continuous Learning:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Continuous learning and keeping up to date with industry trends and technologies.
Qualifications
- Minimum ten (10) years of experience in network engineering.
- Strong hands-on experience and comfort working with servers, routers, switches, firewalls, modems, wireless access points, and Network Interface Cards (NICs).
- Experience and comfort with Signal Generators, Spectrum Analyzers, RF equipment, and various software tools needed for lab level development and test of RF systems.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a fast paced, dynamic environment.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
Qualifications Desired:
- Experience working in DoD or Intelligence Community environment.
- Experience working satellite programs is preferred.
Education Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or related field.
- Master’s degree, Desired.
- Professional certifications such as CISCO Certified Network Professional (CCNP), or equivalent.
Clearance Requirements:
- Active DoD Secret clearance to start.
- Active Top-Secret Clearance, Desired.
- U.S. Citizenship is required for this position.
