Where you'll work:
This is a hybrid onsite/remote opportunity where you will report to the customer location in Falls Church, VA and have the flexibility to work from home based on business needs.

An average day:
As Computer Systems Engineer II, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and optimizing critical systems that support a complex data engineering environment. The role engages with cross-functional teams to build efficient and secure infrastructures, enabling advanced capabilities across various technical domains. In this position you will:
  • Plan, design, and implement scalable system architectures tailored to project and organizational needs
  • Oversee system deployment processes, including coordinating with cross-functional teams and stakeholders
  • Build and maintain robust CI/CD pipelines to streamline software development, testing, and deployment
  • Develop and maintain automated scripts and tools for monitoring, alerting, and troubleshooting systems
  • Collaborate with data engineering teams to optimize data pipelines for AI/ML initiatives, automation, and productization
  • Lead efforts to integrate security best practices, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and standards
  • Conduct performance analysis, capacity planning, and system tuning to maximize uptime and reliability
  • Guide junior team members in troubleshooting techniques, documentation, and adherence to best practices
  • Drive continuous improvement by reviewing existing processes, suggesting enhancements, and implementing new technologies
  • Facilitate knowledge-sharing sessions and contribute to the development of technical training materials
  • Coordinate with software development teams to design and implement automated unit/integration testing frameworks
  • Ensure thorough documentation of architectural decisions, system configurations, and operational procedures
  • Assist in Cloud Infrastructure Management - Support the deployment and maintenance of cloud-based environments, ensuring scalability, security, and cost optimization in cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
  • Support Incident Response and Disaster Recovery Planning - Help develop and test system recovery procedures to minimize downtime and data loss in the event of failures or cyber incidents.
  • Contribute to System Performance Optimization - Analyze system logs, identify performance bottlenecks, and work with senior engineers to implement optimizations that enhance efficiency and reliability.
Basic Qualifications:
  • As a requirement of this position, all candidates must be a U.S. Citizen. In accordance with 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(2)(C) , Epsilon will not consider candidates for this position who do not meet the aforementioned conditions.
  • At least 3 years of experience in computer systems engineering, infrastructure management, or a related field
  • DOD 8570 IAT Level II Certification may be required (GSEC, GICSP, CND, CySA+, Security+ CE, SSCP or CCNA-Security).
  • Proven expertise in administering both Linux and Windows server environments
  • Demonstrated ability to write clean, efficient code in Python and SQL, with proven experience in building and optimizing data pipelines or analytics solutions.
  • Strong background in Agile project delivery, including sprint planning, task tracking, and collaboration using Jira (or similar agile tool), ensuring timely and high-quality deliverables.
  • Hands-on experience with container technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes) and orchestration tools
  • Strong knowledge of CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI) and version control systems (e.g., Git)
  • Practical experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP, including infrastructure as code (e.g., Terraform)
  • Understanding of network protocols, security frameworks, and best practices for secure system architecture
  • Familiarity with data engineering concepts, including ETL/ELT pipelines, big data tools, and AI/ML workflows
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex system issues, perform root-cause analysis, and implement effective solutions
  • Excellent communication, teamwork, and organizational skills, with a focus on innovation and continuous improvement
  • One or more of the following certifications are desired: AWS Certified Developer, Databricks, Agile/Scrum, Python Programmer
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Familiarity with Apache Spark or comparable distributed data processing frameworks, preferably for large-scale data transformations and analytics.
  • Working knowledge of data governance platforms (e.g., Collibra) and cloud-based analytics solutions (e.g., Databricks).
  • Hands-on experience with modern BI tools (e.g., Qlik, Power BI, Tableau) for data visualization and insight generation.
  • Awareness of data access control best practices (e.g., Immuta) and familiarity with role or attribute-based access control frameworks.
Other:
  • Must hold an Active DOD Secret, Top Secret or TS/SCI Clearance
  • Must be located within a two (2) hour commute of the physical work location
