An average day:
As Database Architect III, you will lead the strategic design, optimization, and governance of an organization's data architecture. This position will drive solutions to ensure seamless data delivery, support AI/ML and automation initiatives, and enforce standards for security, performance, and data quality across diverse environments. In this position you will:
- Architect, develop, and maintain large-scale data infrastructures spanning bronze, silver, and gold layers
- Establish best practices for performance optimization, indexing, and high availability
- Develop and refine advanced schema designs to address complex, evolving business needs
- Oversee and guide AI/ML data readiness, collaborating with data scientists and engineers
- Design and implement robust data pipelines with CI/CD automation, integrating advanced testing frameworks
- Drive data governance, ensuring regulatory compliance, data lineage tracking, and quality standards
- Lead security measures such as access control, encryption strategies, and compliance audits
- Provide thought leadership in architecture decisions, technology stack evaluation, and system migrations
- Conduct code reviews and architectural assessments, mentoring junior and mid-level architects
- Develop strategies for disaster recovery, backup, and restoration to safeguard mission-critical data
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to enable process improvements, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement
- Implement monitoring and alerting solutions to proactively identify performance issues and anomalies
- Oversee the integration of new tools and technologies that enhance operational efficiency
- Act as a key resource for troubleshooting and resolving database-related escalations
- Ensure alignment of database solutions with broader organizational objectives and technology roadmaps
- Assist in Data Migration and Integration Efforts - Support the transition of data between systems by helping with Extract, Transform, Load (ETL) processes and ensuring data consistency across different platforms.
- Monitor and Troubleshoot Database Performance Issues - Identify potential bottlenecks, perform root cause analysis, and work with senior architects to implement solutions that enhance database reliability and efficiency.
- Support Compliance and Regulatory Requirements - Ensure database structures and data management practices align with industry regulations (by assisting in audits and implementing necessary compliance measures
- As a requirement of this position, all candidates must be a U.S. Citizen. In accordance with 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(2)(C) , Epsilon will not consider candidates for this position who do not meet the aforementioned conditions.
- Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in database architecture, optimization, and management
- DOD 8570 IAT Level II Certification may be required (GSEC, GICSP, CND, CySA+, Security+ CE, SSCP or CCNA-Security).
- Demonstrated expertise with various database technologies (e.g., PostgreSQL, Microsoft SQL Server, NoSQL solutions)
- Expert knowledge of SQL, Python and Databricks for architecting, optimizing, and managing large-scale data solutions
- Strong background in Agile project delivery, including sprint planning, task tracking, and collaboration using Jira (or similar agile tool), ensuring timely and high-quality deliverables.
- Strong background in data lake and data warehouse design, including data modeling and partitioning strategies
- Advanced proficiency in ETL tools (e.g., Talend, Informatica, Apache Airflow) and orchestration frameworks
- Extensive experience with cloud data ecosystems (AWS, Azure, GCP) and containerization (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes)
- In-depth knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and version control workflows (e.g., Git)
- Experience leading large-scale data governance initiatives, including compliance with relevant regulations
- Advanced Python scripting and programming skills for developing custom data solutions
- Strong leadership and team-building skills, able to drive collaborative efforts among diverse technical teams
- Exceptional troubleshooting, problem-solving, and communication abilities, ensuring alignment with organizational goals
- One or more of the following certifications are desired: AWS Certified Developer, Databricks, Agile/Scrum, Python Programmer
- Familiarity with Apache Spark or comparable distributed data processing frameworks, preferably for large-scale data transformations and analytics.
- Working knowledge of data governance platforms (e.g., Collibra) and cloud-based analytics solutions (e.g., Databricks).
- Hands-on experience with modern BI tools (e.g., Qlik, Power BI, Tableau) for data visualization and insight generation.
- Awareness of data access control best practices (e.g., Immuta) and familiarity with role or attribute-based access control frameworks.
- Must hold an Active DOD Secret, Top Secret or TS/SCI Clearance
- Must be located within a two (2) hour commute of the physical work location
- Some local, regional or US Travel maybe required
