General Summary

The FOIA Site Lead Specialist is an administrative position that plays a crucial role in ensuring compliance with the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA. The specialist will assist the JTF-GTMO FOIA Program Manager in the search, review, organization of records, and redaction of records responsive to FOIA requests.

Requires: United States Citizenship

Requires: Bachelor's Degree from an accredited school or university

Work Location: On-site Guantanamo Bay, Cuba - Relocation assistance will be provided up to the allowed government regulations. Housing will be provided on-site at the Naval Base.

Note: Entry into Cuba is not authorized.



Duties/Responsibilities

Initial review of FOIA requests.
Processes FOIA requests using the department’s FOIA request management tracking system including assembling legal documents and evidence, reviewing cases, redacting information, and applying exemptions as necessary, preparing the appropriate responses, and electronically submitting to Government staff for approvals.
Includes planning and coordination of document searches.
Compiles scanning, and preparing reports, documents, briefing materials, and various correspondences.
Understands the organizational policies and procedures for accuracy of solution and deliverables.
Demonstrates a commitment to quality and customer support.
Other searches and processes as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:

At least 1 years of experience in a role related to FOIA processing, redacting documents and information management.
Strong understanding of FOIA regulations and compliance requirements.
Shall be able to read, write, speak, and understand English, as well as possess basic computer skills
including familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite, SAFE, and Redact Express

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in a leadership or supervisory role within a FOIA or information management context.
Familiarity with electronic records management systems and FOIA tracking software.
Strong analytical abilities to assess FOIA requests and determine appropriate responses.
Excellent communication skills are essential for effectively conveying information to both internal teams and external requesters.
Attention to detail is critical in reviewing documents to ensure compliance with FOIA regulations while protecting sensitive information.
Proficiency in electronic records management will enhance the efficiency of tracking and managing requests.
