We are seeking a highly skilled System Administrator to work in Washington DC.

Job Summary:

Provide administration of software and hardware assets. Administration would include aspects such as, but not limited to, implementation of new hardware or operating systems, patching of existing hardware firmware or software products, updating software, troubleshooting issues, decommissioning old hardware/software, and provisioning and managing user accounts. This work would cover existing assets as well as any new hardware or software assets which are obtained. Interact with various internal bureaus and external agencies to maintain services and troubleshoot service issues. The System Administrator is expected to provide server administration and management for virtual and physical servers. Services focus on building, documenting, operating, maintaining, and sustaining enterprise, regional, and local physical and virtual servers supporting mission and business applications and systems, as well as the underlying shared application and infrastructure services.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Maintain network monitoring software across networks.
  • Identifies, reports, and resolves technical security violations.
  • Performs analysis, design, and development of security features for system architectures.
  • Analyzes and defines system requirements which may include servers, mainframes, workstations, and computers.
  • Provides integration and implementation of the computer system security solution.
  • Analyzes general information assurance-related technical problems and provides basic engineering and technical support in solving these problems.
  • Deployment of applicable server patches and performs system backups.
  • Designs, develops, engineers, and implements solutions that meet security requirements.
  • Performs vulnerability/risk analyses of computer systems and applications during all phase of the system development lifecycle.
  • Ensures that all information systems are functional and secure.
  • Application and configuration of Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA)Security Technical Implementation Guide (STIGs) or Intelligence Standards.
  • Determines enterprise information assurance and security standards.
  • Develops and implements information assurance/security standards and procedures.
  • Coordinates, develops, and evaluates security programs.
  • Recommends information assurance/security solutions to support customers' requirements
  • Management and operation of systems to include establishment of user accounts.
  • Supports customers at the highest levels in the development and implementation of doctrine and policies.
  • Establishes and satisfies information assurance and security requirements based upon the analysis of user, policy, regulatory, and resource demands.
  • Installation, configuration, and maintenance of centralized storage systems.
  • Maintenance of the ticketing system, to include patching, upgrades, and configuration changes as needed to align with existing processes.
  • Identify and resolve problems with all automation hardware, software, systems, and peripherals, at the external and internal customer sites, or by utilizing remote tools.
  • Installing, configuring, and maintaining servers or other computer systems.
  • Documenting computer hardware, system support, and/or diagnostic software, and configuration settings for the full life cycle of the delivered capability.
  • Planning for and responding to service outages and other problems.
  • Installing system upgrades, managing system resources, and optimizing system performance.
  • Performing system startup, shutdown, diagnostics, file management, user and group setups, and determination of login scripts.
  • Assisting in the coordination of system downtime planned for maintenance, system patches, upgrades, and new releases.
  • Performing data and file storage administration and related functions including provisioning and monitoring backups and restorations.
  • Provide helpdesk support or IT operational support to the customers as required.
  • Consulting on computer problems beyond the knowledge of the customer and technical support staff.
  • Administer and monitor all installed systems and infrastructure.
  • Installing, configuring, testing, and maintaining integrity of the operating systems environment, application software and system management tools.
  • Performs systems maintenance tasks, such as system back-up, recovery, and file maintenance.
  • Ensure the highest levels of systems and infrastructure availability.
  • Monitors and maintains software licensing and maintenance agreements.
  • Monitors system configuration to ensure data integrity.
  • Provides first level response for technical issues and requests regarding hardware, software, printers, and connectivity issues; Includes desk-side, telephone, and email support for onsite and remote users.
  • Manages user accounts, groups, and permissions on classified systems.
  • Perform Database Administrator duties.
  • Work with Senior Systems Engineer with researching new technologies to support analysis of existing systems.
  • Support the installation, optimization, integration, troubleshooting, backup, recovery, modification, security, and upgrading of IT systems and components to provide services that enable customers to effectively apply IT to business requirements.
  • Provide direct support in the day-to-day operations on network hardware and operating systems; duties include evaluation of system utilization, monitoring response time and primary support for detection and correction of operational problems.
  • Coordinate and/or perform additions and changes to network hardware and operating systems and attached devices; includes investigation, analysis, recommendation, configuration, installation and testing of new network hardware and software.
  • Assist with the requirements, implementation plan and Standard Operating procedures (SOPs) associated with system implementation and operation. assist with the documentation, deployment, and administration of redundant classified IT systems.
  • Administer resources hosted on servers such as file shares and applications. Analyze IT issues, evaluate alternatives and make logical recommendations based on findings.
  • Define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw conclusions.
  • Manage enterprise class hardware (IBM, Dell, CISCO, servers, database Libraries, Ethernet/FC Switches, storage arrays).
  • Administer the Microsoft Exchange environment, Active Directory, document management system, and all associated sub-systems.
  • Perform system maintenance in accordance with established schedules and best practices.
  • Monitor, secure, identify, and qualify system patches/updates for consideration.
  • Install, update, and maintain supported systems as necessary. Perform security audits, report findings, and take corrective action.
  • Troubleshoots at the physical level of the network, working with network measurement hardware and software, as well as physical checking and testing of hardware devices, at the logical level working with communication protocols.
  • Participate in planning design, technical review and implementation for new Virtual Desktop Infrastructure hardware and network operating systems for voice and data communication networks.
  • Build servers with standard build guidelines, harden and work with Information Assurance to remediate findings after IT Security scans.
  • Attend Authorized Outage, Firewall Change Request, and Root Cause Change Control Board as required.
  • Maintain network infrastructure standards. Maintain security audit and logging information on all classified networked and standalone computers as directed by the Information Systems Security Manager.
  • Provide technical consultation, training, and support to IT staff as designated by director.
  • Coordinate engineering reviews and support technical meetings with stakeholders, users, and development contractors.
  • Provide continuous monitoring scanning results of all managed assets.
  • Provide a report using an agreed upon format containing the results of an asset inventory performed for all managed assets/systems.
  • Provide any other report, documentation, or materials related to the managed assets/systems.

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree AND minimum of six (6) years of system administration OR eight (8) years of system administration experience
  • Must possess one of the following; COMPTIA A+, Network+, and/or Security+ Must obtain Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) 4 Foundation certification must be completed within 6 months
  • Active Top Secret with eligibility to obtain Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility Clearance
