Computer World Services Corp (CWS) is seeking an experienced Database Administrator (DBA) to manage and maintain the organization's database systems, ensuring optimal performance, security, and reliability. The role involves analyzing database requirements, designing and implementing database solutions, and providing support for maintenance, upgrades, and troubleshooting. The ideal candidate will have expertise in Oracle and SQL database systems and a strong understanding of database management best practices.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities
Database Design and Implementation:
- Analyze database requirements, including information needs, relationships, attributes, data flow, and reporting capabilities.
- Design and implement logical and physical database structures, specifying location, space allocation, access methods, and security requirements.
- Test and deploy new database designs or changes to existing systems.
Database Maintenance and Optimization:
- Apply knowledge of database management systems to coordinate upgrades, maintenance, and configuration changes.
- Monitor database performance, identify inefficiencies, and optimize for speed and reliability.
- Ensure data integrity, availability, and backup strategies to support business continuity.
Collaboration and Support:
- Provide guidance to programmers and analysts on database-related changes and projects.
- Address database-related queries from end users, ensuring timely and accurate responses.
- Collaborate with other IT teams to integrate databases with applications and systems.
Documentation and Compliance:
- Develop and maintain detailed database documentation, including descriptions of structures, relationships, and security protocols.
- Ensure compliance with organizational standards and data security best practices.
Monitoring and Technology Integration:
- Monitor database systems for errors, anomalies, and potential security threats.
- Evaluate and implement new database technologies to improve functionality and efficiency.
Job Requirements:
Education & Experience
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology Management, or Engineering.
- Alternatively, four years of related experience may substitute for the educational requirement.
Experience:
- 5-7 years of professional experience in database administration, with a focus on Oracle and SQL databases.
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in Oracle and SQL database management systems.
- Strong knowledge of database design, implementation, and maintenance principles.
- Familiarity with database monitoring tools and techniques.
- Understanding of data flow, manipulation, and storage requirements.
- Experience with database security and access control best practices.
Soft Skills:
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
- Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and manage multiple priorities.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certifications such as Oracle Database Administrator Certified Professional or Microsoft SQL Server Certification.
- Experience with cloud-based database solutions (e.g., AWS RDS, Azure SQL).
- Knowledge of automation tools for database management and scripting (e.g., Python, Shell).
Certifications
- Certifications such as Oracle Database Administrator Certified Professional or Microsoft SQL Server Certification.
- ITIL certification v4 preferred.
Security Clearance
- Ability to obtain Public Trust clearance.
