CLASSIFICATION: Junior Mechanical Engineer

GRADE: Exempt; Regular Full-time

REPORTS TO: Engineering Manager

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The essential job functions include design, modification, fabrication, installation, testing and documentation of mechanical systems and facilities while directing and supervising projects requiring comprehension of a complete or complex group of mechanical equipment. Applies practical knowledge of engineering principles in solving problems requiring application of standard engineering techniques and practices; participates in conferences for planning, coordinating and resolving problems associated with task assignments. This position requires the following: ability to perform static and dynamic design and analysis of mechanical systems; knowledge of mechanical equipment to allow for troubleshooting and new or modified design implementation; excellent skills with 3d modeling and 2d CAD applications; knowledge of ME field of concepts, practices and procedures to include a wide degree of creativity and latitude; must be able to work individually and as a team member, able to take direction but must also lead and direct the work of others; self-initiative is a must; effective communication both verbally and written and understands the System Engineering process to include the ability to present/coordinate PDR's, CDR's, etc. and conduct FAT's; and excellent abilities regarding project/job management with experience in the procurement, cost and budget process.

GENERAL DUTIES:
  • Diagnosing, troubleshooting and repairing radar and positioning systems.
  • Performing preventive maintenance inspections on equipment and determining what maintenance is needed.
  • Researching and ordering replacement components and spare parts for radar and position control system.
  • Utilize safe rigging and lifting techniques.
  • Setting up and testing various types of mechanical equipment to determine equipment specifications and performance.
  • Recommend improvements to maintenance methods, system and equipment performance as well as operational efficiencies.
  • Analyzes work problems and recommends solutions. Train and mentor technicians.
  • Follows all OSHA Safety Regulations.
  • Safely utilizes various measuring, diagnostic, and testing equipment to help provide efficient solutions.
  • Maintains a strict schedule in order to successfully complete assignments on time.
  • Other duties as assigned by Management or Supervisor.

T his position will require various shifts, weekends, and alternative work schedules for extended periods of time. Must be willing to work overtime when required. Must be capable of working independently with minimal or no supervision.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Candidate must have a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering. 1-3 years' experience desired. Must possess strong computer knowledge of Mathcad, Excel, Pro Engineer, specifically Creo Elements and Structure, AutoCAD, Microsoft Office. Must possess working knowledge of documentation and configuration control.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS: This position requires a Top Secret security clearance. Candidate must be eligible to obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance. Must possess a valid drivers' license. Must be a United States citizen. All selected candidates must undergo and successfully pass a background investigation and drug test as a condition of placement into this position. Supports E-OMS operational objectives; observes company Quality, Safety, Environmental, Security and Administrative policies. Supports Process Improvement.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work activities are normally performed in an environmentally controlled area. This position will require various shifts, weekends, and alternative work schedules for extended periods of time. Must be willing to work overtime when required. Must be capable of working independently with minimal or no supervision.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: This position will be subject to substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers. Must be able to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; viewing a computer terminal; and must be capable maintaining physical condition to regularly lift up to 50 pounds. Must be able to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to include a respirator. Must be capable of regularly climbing extension ladders, tower ladders, stepladders and stairs and utilize safe rigging and lifting techniques. Requires the flexibility to bend/stoop, squat repetitively. Requires the ability to regularly kneel. Requires the ability to repetitively stretch or reach horizontal or vertically. Must be capable to walk extensively. Requires the ability to interact with all clients in a professional and friendly manner despite periods of stress.
