Job Description
Job Title: Principal Oracle Database Administrator

Primary Work Location*: Northwestern Washington, DC

Workdays: Monday-Friday Fulltime Onsite
(No telework or alternate work location available)

Work Hours: 8 hours per day, starting between 6am – 9am
(Occasionally, weekend support may be required to facilitate installations and upgrades.)


Position Summary:

As a Principal Oracle Database Administrator at Everfox, you’ll join our growing professional services engineering team. The work is challenging and provides support to a single customer. Supporting this customer will require you to troubleshoot and resolve various issues independently. While you’ll have access to other DBA staff, you’ll be expected to be a self-starter and multitask while communicating effectively with the customer and Everfox management. The ideal candidate will have previous experience supporting medium to large-scale Oracle databases.

Installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting the RHEL 8.x OS supporting Oracle Database software in physical and virtualized environments.

Installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting pluggable and containerized Oracle 19c Databases in physical and virtualized environments.

Installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting Oracle Data Guard.

Performing RHEL 8.x and Oracle 19c upgrades/patching.

Periodically validating Oracle 19c backup/recovery operations leveraging RMAN.

Monitoring and troubleshooting Oracle database performance.

Provide on-demand support for database-related issues and, if need be, work with Oracle support to address any unsolvable onsite problems.

Working with the product support and development teams to address issues or bugs discovered in products running at a customer location.

Working with onsite government, contractor, or subcontractor staff to resolve issues with onsite products as a first line of support.

Reviewing, applying, and remediating security vulnerabilities or security controls based on STIG guidance or scanning reports.

Installing firmware updates on physical components such as DellEMC or HPE servers and SANs.

Communicating daily with customers and Everfox management, providing detailed activity summaries and in-depth trip reports where applicable.

Assisting in the lifting/racking and cabling of physical hardware. **

Possibility of ±10% travel per year to customer coop site locations in VA and MS.

Current Database Size: ±1.5PB

Environment #2

Database Configuration: Oracle 19c database server running on physical hardware.

Current Database Size: Not currently in production but will begin in Q1 2025.

Environment #3

Database Configuration: Oracle 19c database server running on physical hardware.

Database Size: 5TB

Environment #4

Database Configuration: Primary and Secondary Oracle 19c database servers leveraging Oracle Data Guard on physical hardware.

Database Size: Not currently in production but will begin in Q1 2025.

Environment #5

Database Configuration: Oracle 19c database server running on physical hardware.

Database Size: 50TB, read-only archive system.

Things You Must Have to Apply:

An active (currently in use) – TS with SCI or SCI eligibility within two years from last use.

A bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, cybersecurity, or equivalent education and work experience.

The ability to obtain the appropriate work authorizations required under U.S. ITAR or EAR regulations from the applicable U.S. government agency.

15+ years’ experience performing the following tasks:

Installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting the RHEL 8.x OS supporting Oracle Database software in physical and virtualized environments.

Installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting pluggable and containerized Oracle 19c Databases in physical and virtualized environments.

Installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting Oracle Data Guard.

Performing RHEL 8.x and Oracle 19c upgrades/patching.

Periodically validating Oracle 19c backup/recovery operations leveraging RMAN.

Monitoring and troubleshooting Oracle database performance.

Working with onsite government, contractor, or subcontractor staff to resolve issues with onsite products as a first line of support.

Deep understanding of the following information technology areas:

Oracle RDBMS, partitioning, text indexing, grid, ASM, RMAN, SQL, PL/SQL, and scripting in support of automation and nightly processing jobs.

Routing, switching, firewall rules, and TCP/UDP/SSH/FTP/SCP/HTTPS protocols.

Creating, renewing, installing, and troubleshooting secure certificates for web servers/sites, appliances, or networking hardware.

Server hardware installation, maintenance, and patching.


Things That Would Be Nice to Have:

Experience working in cloud environments such as AWS, Azure, GovCloud, or Google Cloud.

Experience working with N-Tier architecture.

Experience with Java application servers.

Oracle Certifications, such as OCA, OCP, and OCM.

Certifications from Cisco, McAfee, Microsoft, Oracle, Red Hat, Symantec, or VMware.

**Physical Demands
This is primarily a passive role, but you may be required to assist with installing and racking servers, network equipment, etc., related to the products running at the customer location.
