We are seeking a section supervisor to lead a group of engineers, providing strategy and vision, for a team passionate about software. Our team contributes to a multitude of programs, including hypersonic missiles, submarines, cruise missiles, and autonomous flight vehicles. We seek to apply a breadth of technical knowledge and experience, so we can provide our sponsors with unparalleled perspective and innovation. You will have a chance to work on and coordinate the strategy, analysis, and implementation of sophisticated methodologies on our nations groundbreaking systems. As Software Model and Design Section Supervisor:
  • Your primary responsibility is to provide technical leadership and oversight of tasking within section, maintaining quality and execution. To be successful at this role you will need to have either a strong technical background in or an understanding of the following: real-time simulations, coding languages (C++/Matlab), software architecture, guidance, navigation, control, and state estimation.
  • You will take broad initiative in developing a strategy and vision for your section, working with staff members to figure out a path forward to advancing state-of-the-art software approaches.
  • You will lead technical staff members, providing mentoring and ensuring work coverage. You will also conduct coaching sessions, providing constructive feedback and helping with career development paths.
  • As a team leader, you will contribute to overall group leadership, working within larger scope. You will also assist the group supervisor with the execution of the group vision and coordinate section’s technical capabilities with respect to those goals.
  • You will be expected to collaborate with other sections to facilitate progress on technical efforts.
  • Perform duties consistent with FPS leadership responsibilities and expectations (http://FPSLeadership).

Qualifications

You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...
  • Possess a B.S. in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering or other related technical discipline
  • At least 5 years relevant experience.
  • Strong leadership skills, including the initiative to build and lead a team of engineers and the organizational skills to facilitate the success of the section.
  • Possess excellent knowledge of modern C++ software development.
  • Have significant experiencing designing and using software simulation frameworks
  • Have experience with MATLAB/Simulink or systems analysis skills
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Show a desire to lead and mentor engineering teams
  • Hold an active Secret level security clearance and can ultimately obtain a Top Secret level clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. The referenced pay range is based on JHU APL’s good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training and skill level with consideration for internal parity. For salaried employees scheduled to work less than 40 hours per week, annual salary will be prorated based on the number of hours worked. APL may offer bonuses or other forms of compensation per internal policy and/or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be provided in the form of a sign-on bonus, relocation benefits, locality allowance or discretionary payments for exceptional performance. APL provides eligible staff with a comprehensive benefits package including retirement plans, paid time off, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, flexible spending accounts, education assistance, and training and development.
