Summary:

The Veterinary Technician 3 will provide advanced technical support in a research environment, delivering high-quality care for laboratory animals. This individual will perform clinical tasks under the supervision of a veterinarian and ensure compliance with all applicable regulations and accreditation standards.

Schedule:
Variable hours to include weekends, holidays, and emergencies as requested.

Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions:
  • Administer medications and substances by injection, orally, or topically.
  • Monitor anesthesia and assist with surgical procedures.
  • Perform euthanasia in compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Support radiographic and surgical procedures.
  • Collect blood and other biosamples as required.
  • Maintain animal medical records, including Good Laboratory Practice (GLP)-compliant entries.
  • Conduct routine health checks and ensure the handling and restraint of animals are conducted safely and humanely.
  • Ensure proper maintenance of the surgical suite and learn additional relevant skills.
  • Work collaboratively with research teams and provide technical expertise.
  • Ensure compliance with the Animal Welfare Act, Public Law 99-158, Army Regulation 40-33, and applicable accreditation standards (e.g., AAALAC).

Qualifications

Necessary Skills and Knowledge:
  • Strong understanding of laboratory animal science and welfare.
  • Familiarity with surgical suite maintenance and GLP requirements.
  • Exceptional organizational, observational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Commitment to maintaining compliance with regulatory standards and facility policies.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum associate degree or equivalent in veterinary technology or a related field.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar role within a research environment.
  • Formal training and experience in handling Old World non-human primates, rodents, and rabbits
  • Animal handling and care certification is required per the Animal Welfare Act and related guidelines.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance, if required by the facility or research project.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) or Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) preferred.

The salary range for this position is $45,000 to $60,000 annually.
