We are seeking an experienced Software Engineer to support the full lifecycle application development process. This includes designing, coding, debugging, and integrating applications in various software languages. The role involves software analysis, requirements analysis, software review, and risk analysis, along with software reliability assessment. Responsibilities also include object-oriented design and analysis (OOA/OOD), software modeling and simulation, front-end graphical user interface design, software testing, and quality assurance. The engineer will work on performance tuning, usability improvements, automation, and ensuring software integration with existing systems. Additionally, this role will involve evaluating and identifying new technologies for implementation and maintaining standards compliance.

Responsibilities:
- Porting software from legacy hardware running on Solaris to new hardware running on Linux.
- Debugging, testing, integration, maintenance, and release management.
- Collaborating closely with sponsors and users on operational site issues, requested capability enhancements, and testing support.
- Ensuring the continued functionality of safety-critical systems supporting aviation operations.
- Occasional travel to the Lexington campus for direct access to on-site test hardware.

Qualifications & Required Skills:
- Active Secret Clearance (or higher).
- Strong understanding of networking applications and protocols, including TCP/IP, DNS, NTP, DHCP, SSH, FTP, and HTTP/S (5 years of experience).
- Proficiency in software documentation (5 years).
- Extensive experience in C/C++ programming (15 years).
- Development experience on a Linux platform (10 years).

- Prior experience working with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

Project Background:
The engineer will support an ongoing upgrade project for the Airport Surveillance Radar-9 (ASR-9) Weather Systems Processor (WSP). The WSP generates hazardous wind-shear detection and storm-tracking products from ASR-9 raw data and is critical for safety at 34 U.S. airports. With aging hardware components, a retrofit with modern components is necessary to sustain WSP operations. This position is vital in completing the Radar Data Product (RDP) replacement project to ensure uninterrupted functionality at all operational sites.

Work Schedule & Location:
- Part-time role (up to 32 hours per week, final schedule to be determined by the hiring manager).
- Hybrid work environment: primarily remote with on-site presence required 1-2 days per week in Lexington.

2. Second-round interview via Zoom with additional team members as needed.

Candidates must meet the clearance requirement to be considered for this position. Local candidates are preferred due to on-site requirements.
