The Northrop Grumman Satellite Servicing Operational Unit is seeking a qualified Systems Engineer/Principal Systems Engineer to serve as a multi-disciplinary Systems Engineer to support Satellite Servicing initiatives. This position will be located in Dulles, VA.
The individual will be supporting various space and ground initiatives within the Satellite Servicing Organization, working on missions such as the Mission Extension Vehicle (MEV), Mission Extension PODs (MEPs), and Mission Robotics Vehicle (MRV), as well as various R&D efforts on future technologies and process improvements. The candidate should be knowledgeable in system-of-systems engineering, ground segment design and integration, segment and subsystem interfaces, payloads, and/or mission operations. The ideal candidate will also have software tool development experience. The role will include interface with clients, as well as regular interactions with internal engineering teammates and program management. The candidate will be called on to assist in new business activities such as conceptual design and analysis for proposals and funded studies.

Salary Range 2: $110,300 - $165,500
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.

Duties/Responsibilities:
- Program Risks and Risk Assessment
- Mission objectives and CONOPs development
- Mission Requirements Analysis and functional Decomposition
- Requirements flow down to major subsystems (e.g. RPO, GNC, Thermal, etc.)
- Interface compatibility of major subsystems (e.g. CDH, EPS, CapM)
- Reading and understanding functions within various software tools
- Developing and integrating various mission analysis software tools with each other.
- Creating a user-friendly web-based or GUI-based frontend that allows for swift changes of mission parameters.
Additionally, the candidate will be exposed to the following areas :
- Operational procedure & script development & testing
- Interactions with Subsystem Cognizant Engineers
- Rehearsal & Operations preparation
- Mission Rehearsal & Operations support (may require shift work)
- Requirements Verification planning.
- Mission analysis
- Conceptual, preliminary and detailed system and space vehicle design
- Trade studies
- Systems integration and test
- System interface definition and management
- Business Development support
- Learning how to use new tools and follow new analyses processes on the fly to support mission analysis software integration efforts.

Basic Qualifications:
- Systems Engineer Level (T2) - B.S. in STEM - Science, Technology, Engineering, Math or related area and 2 years of experience; M.S. in STEM or related area and 0 years of experience.
- Principal Systems Engineer Level (T3) - B.S. in STEM - Science, Technology, Engineering, Math or related area and 5 years of experience; M.S. in STEM or related area and 3 years of experience.
- Experience working on Enterprise Software Products
- Hands-on experience using and building engineering analysis tools, as well as writing code. Specifically: MATLAB, Python, Experience working with Computer Aided Design (CAD) software
- Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government DoD security clearance
Preferred Qualifications:
- Ability to task and/or manage a group of diversified individuals with varying backgrounds to achieve mission success.
- Experience with optimization techniques and their application to trajectory optimization and/or multi-objective optimization
- Prior aerospace-related work experience for a U.S Government Agency or Contractor
- Background/fundamental understand of performing data analysis
- Experience working on ground software systems
- Experience using Agile development tools & processes (JIRA, scrum, etc.)
- Familiarity with satellite servicing CONOPs, including trajectory development, mass properties, power balance, and other areas of technical compatibility
- Familiarity with Ground Systems
- Familiarity with requirements generation and decomposition
- GUI development with UI/UX experience (if possible)
- Advanced skills in Matlab, Python, C#
- 3D modeling/visualization tools (CREO, Blender, Unreal Engine, etc.)
- Ability to work with engineering tool APIs (ANSYS STK, ANSYS Thermal Desktop, Blender, etc.)
- Experience working with APIs for analysis tools, such as ANSYS products
