The Aircraft Mechanic I (UH-60 Engine Mechanic Repair Specialty) UH-60, inspects, services, and performs aviation unit (AVUM), intermediate (AVIM) and Field maintenance on aircraft turbine engines and components. The mechanic services, repairs, and overhauls aircraft and aircraft engines to ensure airworthiness. The Aircraft Mechanic I troubleshoot malfunctions in aircraft structure, landing gear, flight surfaces and controls, anti-icing, pneudraulic, engines, auxiliary power unit, and ventilation and heating systems.
  • Removes and installs aircraft subsystem assemblies and components such as engines, rotors, transmissions, mechanical flight controls and their components.
  • Removes, replaces, services, prepares, preserves, cleans, and stores engine assemblies or components.
  • Disassembles, repairs, resembles, adjusts, and performs diagnostic testing on turbine engine systems, sub-systems, and components according to directives.
  • Services and lubricates aircraft and subsystems.
  • Safely prepares aircraft for inspections and maintenance checks and services.
  • Performs scheduled inspections and assists in performing special inspections.
  • Performs limited maintenance operational checks and diagnoses and troubleshoots aircraft
    systems using special tools and test equipment as required.
  • Uses and performs operator maintenance on tools, special tools and aircraft ground support
    equipment.
  • Mechanic applies comprehensive technical expertise to solve moderate problems by interpreting technical documentation such as aircraft Technical Manuals, Maintenance Information and Action Messages and all technical guidance provided through government official representatives.
  • Uses a working knowledge of technical publications and the Government STAMIS to make entries in aircraft logs and records.
  • Reads and interprets manufacturers' and airline's maintenance manuals, service bulletins,
    technical data, engineering data, and other specifications to determine feasibility and method of repairing or replacing malfunctioning or damaged components.
  • Performs 100-hour, progressive, isochronal, phase, periodic, and other hourly or calendar
    inspections, inspects jet engines and components for cracks, corrosion, foreign object damage, burned areas, distortions, security, warping, wear, and missing segments.
  • Inspects jet engine turbine blades to detect cracks, distortion, corrosion, burn-out, security, or
    breaks, tests engine operation, using testing equipment, such as ignition analyzer, compression checker, distributor timer, ammeter, and jet calibration (Jetcal) tester, to locate source of malfunction.
  • When required can use Respiratory Protective Equipment (RPE) for job duties.
  • Perform other qualified duties as assigned.


Minimum Requirements
  • Must be knowledgeable of aircraft mechanical component troubleshooting, repair procedures and replacement of parts.
  • Must be knowledgeable of electrical theory and of aircraft unique tools such as test equipment,
    torque wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers, sheet metal brakes and sheers.
  • Must be able to read and interpret manufacturers' and airline's maintenance manuals, service
    bulletins, technical data, engineering data, and other specifications to determine feasibility and method of repairing or replacing malfunctioning or damaged components.
  • Thorough knowledge of aircraft mechanical component troubleshooting, repair procedures and
    replacement of parts.
  • Basic knowledge of electrical theory and a thorough knowledge of aircraft unique tools such as
    test equipment, torque wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers, sheet metal brakes and sheers.
    Working knowledge of technical publications and Logistics Information Systems.
  • Able to prioritize workloads to maintain schedules on assigned projects and is required to lead
    teams through more complex aircraft relevant tasks.
  • Possess the level of experience to carry out all required aeronautical type maintenance to be
    performed by Mechanics.
  • The incumbent receives technical guidance, as required, from supervisor or higher-level
    technician and may be required to make entries in aircraft logs and records.
  • Must be able to type using a standard keyboard to communicate through e-mail and software
    applications.
  • Will be required to handle dirty parts and lubricants.
  • Will be required to wear proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Must be able to pass a Respirator Physical and Fit Test qualification.
  • Must be able to lift/push/pull minimum of 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to work in a shop where the environment is drafty, noisy, and dirty.
  • Must have a valid up-to-date A&P license.
  • If no A&P license, must have three years aviation maintenance experience, two years rotary wing aircraft experience, and two years on the assigned Mission Design Series (MDS). All experience must be within the six most recent years.
  • All mechanics assigned to perform maintenance on FAA certified aircraft must meet FAA requirements.
  • Must provide own Tools/Toolbox. Tools must be shadowed and etched with PID.
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
  • Must be able to work weekends/different shifts as set by Union.


Clearance Requirements:
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a NACI(T1) Public Trust Security Clearance. Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization. US Citizenship is required for facility credentials/authorization to work at this facility.


Preferred/Physical Qualifications
  • Frequently lifts parts and equipment up to 25 pounds.
  • Occasionally lifts objects up to 50 pounds.
  • Most heavy lifting is accomplished through the use of mechanical devices.
  • Work is performed in Aircraft maintenance hangar that is moderately lighted, heated, and ventilated. Work could be performed outside as well.
  • May be required to respond to a wide variety of operational circumstances, including extreme weather conditions and rudimentary infrastructure
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk or hear.
  • The employee frequently is required to walk; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions.
  • The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb, or balance
  • May be exposed to extreme noise from turbine and jet engine aircraft.
  • May be exposed to fumes or airborne particles; may be exposed to electrical shock hazards or work near moving mechanical parts, vehicles, or aircraft.
  • Must be able to climb stairs, ramps, ladders, and work stands.
  • Must be able to crouch, crawl, grasp or handle objects, use finger dexterity, bend elbow/knee and reach above/below shoulders.
  • Knowledge of military and/or company forms required by work specifications is a plus
  • Must be able to walk and stand on level and/or inclined surfaces for extended periods throughout the day.


California: Compensation & Benefits:

HIRING SALARY RANGE: $96,408.00 - $46.35 an Hour (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant internal equity, and alignment with market data.)
