Senior Engineer- Commercial SATCOM

Overview

Intelligent Waves is seeking a highly skilled and results-driven Senior Engineer- Commercial Satellite Communications (COMSAT) to support our mission critical work in support of our government customer at Scott AFB, IL.

This role involves designing, implementing, and maintaining complex communications and IT networks while troubleshooting and optimizing system performance. The Senior Engineer provides client consulting, training, and technical guidance, supporting network initiatives and resolving issues using advanced monitoring tools. Responsibilities also include researching new technologies, developing contingency plans for system failures, and collaborating with key stakeholders.

Travel: Ability to travel up to 10% of the time and will be reimbursed based on IW policy, GSA Per Diem rates and DoD Joint Travel Regulations (JTR) as required.

Security Clearance: The Senior Engineer- Commercial Satellite Communications (COMSAT) must be a United States citizen and hold a current DoD Top Secret w/SCI or SCI eligible security clearance or higher.

Adherence to all customer site protocols is mandatory for employees.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities

• The Senior Engineer evaluates, designs, documents, installs, implements, tests, performs problem isolation and resolution, monitors, tunes, and sets standards for complex communications and IT networks

• Maintains a complex range of components and systems; provides client consulting and training on the interfacing and use of IT and communications networks; plans and coordinates IT and communications network initiatives

• Researches, evaluates, and recommends new equipment and technologies; utilizes monitoring, performance analysis, network management, software and hardware equipment to troubleshoot and isolate problems, gauge system performance, and trace data and protocol activity

• Develops and executes contingency plans for software and hardware failures including isolated and major outages; and provides consulting, technical guidance, information and support to application developers, computer operations, workstation support, management and customer stakeholders.

• Independent problem solving with a variety of system engineering abilities, including knowledge and experience in requirements development, verification and testing.

• Must be comfortable in a fast-paced environment and be able to quickly adapt to emerging requirements and changing priorities.

• Requires bachelor's degree + 8 years' relevant experience or HS diploma and 12 years' relevant experience.
• TS/SCI clearance required. Air Force or other DoD experience preferred.
• Requires experience with wideband satellite communications
• Understanding of satellite communications fundamentals and types of satellites (Geosynchronous Earth Orbit, Low Earth Orbit and Medium Earth Orbit)
• Understanding of forward/return link information rates, tail blockage, satellite interference regulations, high throughput satellite frequency reuse schemes, keyhole effect and solar conjunctions
• Knowledge of radio frequency bands including L, Ku, K, Ka and Q and V bands
• Knowledge of SATCOM network equipment including antennas, antenna controllers, radio frequency (RF) conversion, modems, end-to-end IP networks using virtual local area networks (VLANs), virtual routing and forwarding (VRF), virtual private networks (VPNs), and National Security Agency (NSA) high assurance internet protocol encryptor (HAIPE) devices
• Air Force or other DoD experience preferred.
