Description
Serve as a Junior Autonomy Systems Engineer for the Leidos Innovation Center (LInC) in Huntsville, AL. Our team’s mission is to: (1) develop and demonstrate contested autonomy and navigation technologies to meet urgent military operational needs to operate in RF-challenged environments, and (2) rapidly transition this technology to operational platforms to outpace the adversary threats currently being faced in the field. We support a wide variety of military autonomous vehicles including drones, unmanned underwater vehicles, and ground robots. Project involve small teams of engineers working together in spiral or agile development environments to meet aggressive customer schedules aimed at near-term field demonstrations of emerging capabilities. Typical customers include Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), Air Force Research Laboratory, Office of Naval Research (ONR), and Army engineering research centers.
The ideal candidate for this position will be someone who is excited about autonomous systems and thrives in a dynamic environment where there are many chances to learn new skills. Primary Responsibilities
- Support a variety of traditional systems engineering functions for fast-moving small-to-medium sizes projects. Our projects tend to focus on producing high-quality concise documentation rather than large formal documents that can be hundreds of pages.
- Support requirements development (including deriving lower-level requirements, defining methods of verification, and developing requirements traceability verifications matrices).
- Define and document interface requirements across subsystems including generation of interface control documents
- Support development of program planning documentation including Project Plans, Project Schedules, Software Development Plans, and Technical Reports (including synthesizing inputs from slide inputs from multiple different subsystems into a cohesive final written report))
- Perform software testing and quality assurance on prototype deliverables
- Support material procurement and tracking for small quantities of hardware for prototype efforts
- Track project progress (including calculation of Earned Value Metrics for schedule, budget, and technical performance) by distilling financial reports, evaluating task progress, and discussions with the engineering discipline leads
- Support safety review preparations prior to field demonstrations
- Develop documentation and user’s guide providing instructions to operators on how to use our systems successfully in the field
- Support occasional travel for data collections and field demonstrations (typical duration no longer than 5 days)
- Run replay analysis software to analyze collected data and summarize results and conclusions
- Willingness to take on all needed tasks to help our team be successful on challenging deadlines, ranging from high level (customer briefings and solution development) to low level (planning logistics for travel events and TIMs, ordering and maintaining hardware inventory, etc.)

Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Systems Engineering or related technical field (including Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Aerospace Engineering) with 2+ years of experience or a Master’s Degree in advanced technical field with 0 years or more of experience
- Strong work ethic and attention to detail
- Selected candidate expected to have GPA > 3.6
- Demonstrated leadership experience in peer level organizations
- Understanding of Systems Engineering fundamentals from classroom or real-world experience
- Proactive self-starter who is willing to find solutions to problems based only on high-level guidance
- Experience operating a wide variety of software programs, including strong proficiency in Microsoft Office as well as video editing software
- Basic programming experience (such as Matlab or Python fundamentals)
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Must be a U.S. Citizen and have the ability to obtain a Secret security clearance
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and associated tools such as Cameo and MagicDraw
- Past experience being the primary author of Systems Engineering artifacts for DoD programs
- Experience interfacing with and briefing to DoD government customers
