Amentum is seeking a Fire Equipment Operator for a position on Kauai, HI. Supporting the Fire and Emergency Services Department. The Fire Equipment Operator is responsible for the safe and effective operation of specialized firefighting apparatus to include Aircraft Rescue Firefighting (ARFF), Pumper, Rescue, and ambulance vehicles. Maintains apparatus in a clean, response-ready state and performs daily operator inspections and preventive maintenance. Conducts vehicle mounted equipment operational checks and accurately accounts for vehicle assigned inventory. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Responsibilities
Specific assignments and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following areas:
- Operates apparatus in a controlled manner at all times and ensures the safe arrival of crews to the emergency scene.
- Performs operator vehicle inspections, preventive maintenance, periodic vehicle service testing, and mounted equipment inventory for fire fighting vehicles.
- Maintains a thorough working knowledge on operational requirements of onboard fire suppression resources, to include turrets, handlines, and dry chemical systems.
- Maintains a thorough working knowledge on hydraulic calculations, pump operations, hose loads, hose evolutions, agent re-supply, and agent application.
- Maintains competencies for all activities supporting fire suppression efforts.
- Recertify annually on all vehicles qualified and expected to operate.
- Works with the Fire Inspector to conduct facility fire inspections to validate compliance to life safety standards and codes. Identifies hazards and deficiencies and takes appropriate action to report code violations.
- Completes all required driver operator training and education in accordance with NFPA 1451, Standard for a Fire and Emergency Service Vehicle Operation Training Program.
- Completes all required documentation as required.
- Performs other job-related, collateral duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Physical:
- Must be able to pass an annual Performance Fitness Evaluation of essential job tasks.
- Must participate in an exercise and fitness training program every on-duty day.
- Must participate in an annual fitness assessment of the following components: aerobic capacity, body composition, muscular strength, muscular endurance, and flexibility.
- Must participate in annual respiratory protection training evaluation in accordance with requirements of NFPA 1404, Standard for Fire Service Respiratory Protection Training.
- Must be able to function effectively while wearing respiratory protection-- face mask with self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA).
- Must complete strenuous fireground tasks as assigned during emergency situations or in a training environment.
- Must meet the medical requirements outlined in NFPA 1582, Comprehensive Occupational Medical Program for Fire Departments, Chapter 6.
- Lifting, pushing/pulling over 50 lbs. (two-men assist)
- Work positions requirements: walking, standing, crawling, kneeling, cramped, sitting and work requiring repeated or frequent stair climbing.
- Customer contact, extended workday, confined work area, field assignment, and inclement weather.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School or equivalent.
- Must have a current Hawaii Driver's License
- Maintain current qualification for Emergency Vehicle Operators Course (EVOC) and Airfield Vehicle Operators Course (AVOC)
- Must have the following Professional Certifications (IFSAC or ProBoard affiliate)
- Firefighter II
- Airport Firefighter
- Driver Operator - Pumper,
- Driver Operator - ARFF
- Hazardous Materials-Technician
- Fire Inspector I (within six months from position assignment)
- Must have a current National Registry of Emergency Medical Technician - Basic (NREMT-B) license or higher
- Must have a current CPR/AED card -- American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) affiliate
- Must successfully pass an annual skills validation evaluation on the professional certifications required of this position
Experience:
- Three years' experience with an organized Fire Department
- Two years' experience as a Rescue Specialist and/or Firefighter.
- Two years' experience with Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting (ARFF) services
- Must process the following PC skills: MS Office Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint
