Toyon is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join a team developing prototypes of reentry bodies and other aerospace systems. This position requires a strong background in mechanical design and drafting. The mechanical engineer will play an integral role throughout the design process; from conceptualization, detailed design, release of technical drawing packages, through the development of manufacturing processes and specifications.

The annual pay range for the Mechanical Engineer position is $110,000 to $165,000.
The posted pay range values provide the candidate with guidance on annual base compensation for the position, at a full time level of effort, exclusive of overtime, bonus, and benefits-related compensation, over a range of qualifications that may fit hiring objectives. Toyon Research Corporation will consider the individual candidate's education, work experience, applicable knowledge, skills and training, among other factors, when preparing an offer of employment.

This position requires a strong background in mechanical design and drafting. The mechanical engineer will play an integral role throughout the design process; from conceptualization, detailed design, release of technical drawing packages, through the development of manufacturing processes and specifications.
Requirements
The ideal candidate will have the following experience, skills, and abilities:
- B.S. or advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering and 5 or more years of experience designing structures encountering challenging vibration, shock, and temperature environments
- Experience with the various elements of mechanical design, including selection of structural materials, adhesive and fastener selection; AMSE y14.5 and other relevant ASME drafting standards; familiarity with ISO 9001/AS9100/MIL Specifications as they apply to aerospace structures
- Ability to work in a team environment involving experts in diverse disciplines (e.g. aero-thermal and thermo-structural analyses, RF and IR signature effects of materials and configurations, etc.)
- Experienced using parametric CAD software to create models of assemblies, parts and drawings. Experience with SolidWorks and / or Creo skills are preferred, with the ability to quickly achieve proficiency in both CAD packages
- Able to efficiently generate models for new electro-mechanical parts and assemblies from given design requirements and adaptation of existing models
- Capable of applying experience to ensure that parts meet design requirements, especially environmental test specification, and are practical for fabrication and assembly
- Adept at quickly generating design concepts and updating design iterations to review and refine with input from the technical lead and other team specialists
- Reliable and dependable in delivering design products, data items, and analysis, within designated timelines to meet critical project milestones
