Akima Infrastructure Services, LLC (AIS), is actively seeking individuals who can contribute to national security within the project management and business services fields as part of our staff augmentation team supporting the Department of Energy at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL). AIS has an established history of contributing to the success of our customer's mission.

Successful candidates will be employees of AIS, a premier government contractor charged with employing highly motivated and well-qualified personnel who can advance the missions of ORNL in Oak Ridge, TN. Though employed by AIS, the employee will take day-to-day direction from technical personnel employed directly by the research laboratory. Pay, benefits, Human Resource, and Employment Management functions are provided by AIS.

Qualified applicants must be a US citizen, at least 18 years of age, and able to meet pre-employment requirements including any required physicals, drug screen, and/or background investigation to satisfy clearance requirements from the Department of Energy.

The Procedure Writer will support the ISED Document and Records Management Group Lead in NNFD's Safety, Engineering and Support Section. Develops new documents, procedures and modifies existing ones for nonreactor nuclear facilities including those associated with operations, processing operations, directorate-level, and division-level documents.

Responsibilities

  • Develop procedures that provide specific instructions for task performance using PPA and ORNL writer's guides.
  • Performs independent verifications and conducts independent validations of draft technical procedures.
  • Develops new and revised Administrative Management requirements documents and technical procedures.
  • Establishes the basis for the development of technical procedures including management control, technical, and design basis and researches the regulatory and administrative requirements affecting the procedure.
  • Determines the technical requirements that apply to the procedure by examining the following type of requirements: DOE rules, orders, and standards; safety analysis; and criticality safety requirement documents.
  • Performs walk downs in process areas to ensure technical adequacy and accuracy of process and equipment information in the procedure and that Human Factors considerations have been incorporated.
  • Performs assessments to confirm equipment configuration, nameplate information, and environmental or location factors that may influence procedure performance or increase the safety risk to the user.
  • Research potential hazards and problems in performing activities by interviewing procedure users and identifying the consequences if the procedure is not performed correctly.
  • Participates on Job Hazard Analysis evaluations to determine what hazard controls are required to be implemented in procedures.
  • Ensures procedures are technically adequate and written to a level of detail consistent with the education, qualifications, and training of the expected users.
  • Interfaces with labeling and tagging and engineering personnel to ensure components associated with the operations correctly reflect the component descriptions called out in the performance action steps, diagrams, system alignments, and checklists of the procedure.
  • Performs all work in compliance with environmental, safety, health and quality program requirements, including ISMS and the Safe Conduct of Research principles.
  • Organize material and complete writing assignment according to set standards regarding order, clarity, conciseness, style, and terminology.
  • Maintain records and files of work and revisions.
  • Edit, standardize, or make changes to material prepared by other writers or establishment personnel.

Qualifications

  • Experience in technical procedure development/writing and for operations in a nuclear environment
  • Demonstrated understanding and experience in the use of the PPA AP-907-005, Procedure Writer's Manual and PPA-AP-007, Procedures Process Description is required
  • Bachelor's degree with 5-7 years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required

Desired Qualifications:
  • PPA Certification
  • Knowledge of Current Good Manufacturing Practice (cGMP) processes
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
