The Technical Capabilities Department (N923), within MITRE's Intelligence Center, seeks an Applied Artificial Intelligence Engineer (Principal) to advance the delivery of high quality, high impact work for our sponsors, drive innovative solutions, develop department talent, and provide thought leadership across the interagency.
The Technical Capabilities Department combines deep technical expertise and operational knowledge to provide unique insights and solutions to the most challenging problems facing the US Intelligence Community and DoD. The department includes four mission-focused groups: Space Technical Intelligence (STI), Exploitation & Data Analysis (E&DA), Science & Technology (S&T), and Adversary Technical Intelligence (ATI). This position will be in the STI group.
Roles & Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will demonstrate expert ability to perform direct sponsor work to support and facilitate US Department of Defense (DOD) and interagency technical development or application of Artificial Intelligence to support joint or interagency operations using applied Artificial Intelligence exploitation or proven applications. Prior government or military service in developing or leading development of Artificial Intelligence applications to support technical intelligence or special operations is required to facilitate expert advice to aid interagency collaboration in a complex operational environment.

Basic Qualifications:
- Typically requires a minimum of 10 years of related experience with a bachelor's degree; or 8 years and a master's degree; or a PhD with 5 years' experience; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.
- At least 12 years' experience supporting intelligence community, special operations, or federal law enforcement.
- Demonstrated ability to conceive, design, and implement AI/ML solutions supporting the DoD and IC communities.
- Active Top Secret/SCI clearance with polygraph and ability to maintain classified sponsor network access.
- Demonstrated success leading small teams or working independently in complex technical or sponsor dynamic environments.
- Demonstrated skill in identifying, evaluating, and critically exploitering technical solutions to find best option for customer.
- Proven ability to operate at senior sponsor levels, with requisite oral and written communication skills.
- This position requires a minimum of 4 days a week on-site.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Government civilian experience in the national intelligence community or military experience in applying or leading Artificial Intelligence exploitation or data exploitation in supporting conventional or Special Operations military efforts or with the Intelligence Community.
- Demonstrated experience and understanding of the specialized mission needs and relevant technical solutions in highly constrained operational environments.
- Demonstrated experience identifying and closing capability gaps between sponsor Agencies.
