Currently, ManTech is seeking a motivated, career and customer-oriented Vessel Assessment Team (VAT) Safety Officer to help support our current USMC contract out of Brisbane, Australia.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- The Safety Officer is responsible for ensuring that all aspects of the experimental vessel's trials are conducted in accordance with safety protocols and regulations.
- This role involves both active oversight of safety during demonstrations and a thorough evaluation of the vessel's compliance with maritime safety standards.
- Ensure that the vessel and crew comply with all maritime safety regulations and protocols, including international standards such as SOLAS (Safety of Life at Sea) and U.S. Navy/Marine Corps safety requirements.
- Operate 7M RIB Auxiliary Boat(s) as needed to augment the vessel crew for the Marine Corps Warfighting Laboratory (MCWL).
- Conduct regular safety inspections and risk assessments, identifying potential hazards and ensuring mitigation strategies are in place.
- Work closely with the RMB to evaluate and address safety risks related to the vessel's operations, including technical and environmental factors.
- Provide detailed reports on safety compliance, risk mitigation strategies, and cargo handling assessments to the SLV (STS) Project Manager through the VAT Manager.
- Document any safety incidents or near misses, and recommend corrective actions to the Sponsors and the RMB
- Conduct assessments and observations as outlined by the Marine Corps Warfighting Laboratory and Littoral Manoeuvre Program (LiMP) Office of vessel, crew and the Embarked Force.
- Present recommendations for enhancing Embarked Force's operational planning for the utilization of the SLV (STS) as a maneuver, mobility and sustainment platform.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelors Degree and at least 5 years of experience with safety compliance in maritime or naval operations. Additional 2 years of experience may be substituted in lieu of degree
- Certification in maritime safety management, with experience in safety protocols for sea trials and vessel operations
- In-depth knowledge of maritime safety regulations and standards.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiar with Marine Corps processes, procedures, and interoperability requirements
- Strong understanding of maritime safety regulations and military operational logistics.
Clearance Requirement:
- US Citizen with the ability to obtain a DoD Secret clearance.
Physical Requirement:
- Requires the ability to work aboard vessel and ashore
