The Digital Modernization Sector has an exciting career opportunity for a in Colorado Springs, CO to support the US Space Force’s Space Systems Command (SSC), Operational Command and Control Acquisition Delta, known as Kobayashi Maru. This role is instrumental in the development and deployment of mission critical software for space defense, space domain awareness, and enabling data services. This position is 80% hands on keyboard tactical engineering and 20% product/team support.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Design, deploy, and manage virtual cloud infrastructures across hybrid environments (on-premises and cloud) such as AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, or Oracle Cloud (IaaS & PaaS).
  • Maintain and optimize virtualization platforms like VMware ESXi, Hyper-V, and cloud-native virtualization solutions.
  • Automate deployments and configurations using Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform, Ansible, and CloudFormation.
  • Provision, maintain, and scale cloud resources in AWS, Azure, GCP, or OCI in collaboration with cross-functional teams.
  • Monitor cloud resource utilization to ensure cost efficiency and scalability.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve system, application, and infrastructure issues, performing root cause analysis as needed.
  • Ensure infrastructure meets security, compliance, and operational standards within a DevSecOps framework.
  • Support CI/CD pipelines and integrate infrastructure automation into the development lifecycle.
  • Implement and manage containerization and orchestration technologies, such as Docker and Kubernetes, for microservices architectures.
  • Configure and maintain monitoring tools to ensure system and application availability and performance.
  • Identify and implement optimizations to improve efficiency, reduce latency, and enhance system uptime.
  • Apply security best practices, including identity and access management (IAM), network segmentation, and encryption, to protect hybrid cloud infrastructures.
  • Assist in audits and compliance initiatives (e.g., RMF, NIST, ISO 27001).
  • Provide Tier-2/3 support for escalated issues, working closely with internal teams and external vendors.
  • Document procedures, configurations, and troubleshooting steps to enhance knowledge sharing.
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to team growth and development initiatives.


Basic Qualifications:
  • Requires BS and 4+ years of prior relevant experience or Masters with 2+ years of prior relevant experience, additional years of experience will be accepted in lieu of a degree.
  • Must have a DoD-8570 IAT Level 2 baseline certification (Security+ CE or equivalent).
  • Must have AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Azure Solutions Architect Expert, or Google Cloud Professional DevOps Engineer certifications.
  • Proficiency in virtualization technologies, including VMware, Hyper-V, and OpenStack.
  • Strong expertise in public cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, Google Cloud (GCP), and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI).
  • Hands-on experience with Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) tools like Terraform, Ansible, and CloudFormation.
  • Solid understanding of containerization (Docker) and orchestration platforms (Kubernetes).
  • Familiarity with monitoring tools (Prometheus, Grafana, etc.) and incident management.
  • Familiarity with networking concepts, including VPCs, subnets, VPNs, and firwalls.
  • Practical knowledge of DevSecOps principles, methodologies, and best practices.
  • Must have an active Secret Clearance.
     


Preferred Skills and Certifications:
  • Cloud Certifications: AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Azure Solutions Architect Expert, or Google Cloud Professional DevOps Engineer. Security Certifications: CISSP, CEH, GIAC or Cloud Security Automation (GCSA).
  • Experience with security frameworks (e.g., RMF, NIST 800-53).
  • Knowledge of scripting or programming languages, such as Python, PowerShell, or Bash.
  • Familiarity with log management and monitoring tools (e.g., Splunk, Datadog, or ELK stack).

Pay Range: Pay Range $104,650.00 - $189,175.00
