PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Maintain environmental systems and programs to ensure compliance with regulatory standards by performing daily duties such as operating and monitoring various treatment systems, sampling and routine cleanup of hazardous materials.
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT:
Pickup truck, pallet jack, HEPA vacuum cleaner, pumps, hoses, sampling kit, drum tipper, protective clothing, hand tools, shovel, MSDS's.
MATERIAL:
Hazardous material/waste, neutralization chemicals, absorbent, shipping and packaging materials, sample jars, drums, labels, hazardous waste manifests.

WORKING PROCEDURE:
THE FOLLOWING ARE THE USUAL MAJOR JOB DIMES BUT THIS DESCRIPTION DOES NOT PRECLUDE THE PERFORMANCE OF OTHER DUTIES BY THE INCUMBENT, NOR THE QUESTION BEING RAISED ON THE PROPER RATE FOR THE ASSIGNMENT.
1. Receive work assignments and instructions from supervisor.
2. Operate and monitor various treatment systems including waste water treatment, groundwater treatment, ultrafiltration, empty container cleaning and solvent recovery, etc, by checking treatment chemicals, controls, calibration, pump operation, tank levels, pH probes, waste water effluent and sludge collection. Immediately advise supervisor of out-of-tolerance situations.
3. Prepare and sample various hazardous materials from on-site locations including collection sumps, pumping stations, spills, ultrafiltration, pickle facility, steam test facility, paint booths, air compressors, former machine sites, etc, according to the Inspection Procedures and/or as situation requires.
4. Collect hazardous material samples and deliver to pickup area. Complete and comply with Chain of Custody Form requirements.
5. Inspect plant secondary containment sumps on daily or weekly basis (as specified by inspection procedures) and pump them as directed.
6. Perform decontamination activities, including routine spill cleanup, cleaning and sampling of area to insure compliance with EPA guidelines.
7. Maintain in effect the "Hazardous Waste Operators and Emergency Response" certification and successfully complete the requirements of recertification on an annual basis.
8. Maintain cleanliness of treatment and work areas by sweeping debris and removing any standing water.
9. Perform work of equal or lower skill as required.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- HS Diploma or GED
- Minimum of 1-year industrial systems experience (ex: waste water/ground water treatment, filter press, ultrafiltration/reverse osmosis, pH adjustment, transfer pumps/tanks)
- Work experience / knowledge of chemistry to include pH scale, chemical safety, and other rudimentary concepts
- Work experience with the use of PPE to include (but not limited to) Tyvek suit, gloves, safety glasses, and hearing protection
- Work experience using mechanical skills to operate manual tools such as PVC pipe cutter and hand power tools
- Work experience utilizing email, data entry, and navigating applications to meet work assignment(s) such as online training
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Waste water treatment experience
- HAZWOPER certified
- Confined space certified
- First aid/CPR certified
- Ultra-filtration experience
- Ground water treatment experience
- Environmental sampling knowledge (soil sampling, water sampling)
