AIP is looking for a Laundry Operator Lead to work in Brownsville, TX. The Laundry Lead works under the supervision of the Assistant Facility Director. The Laundry Leads acts independently or assists in the performance of all duties necessary to keep the facility laundry in full operation. The Laundry Lead also ensures laundry operations comply with applicable requirements in accordance with Performance Based National Detention Standards, American Correctional Association standards and safety regulations. Responsibilities
- Assigns Laundry Workers daily tasks that includes collection and sorting of clothing, under garments, linen, towels, and other items for laundering. Tasking includes weighing articles for documentation and washing machine and dryer weight requirements.
- Assigns Laundry Workers to fold, inventory, and stock storage room.
- Assigns Laundry Workers to size, mark, alter, and repair clothing. Tasking includes repairs or replacement of defective garment parts such as elastic waist bands, pockets, pocket flaps, and coat linings.
- Trains Laundry Workers to resew garments, using needle and thread or sewing machine.
- Maintains a documented inventory of clothing, towels, under garments and bedding supplies.
- Maintain accurate documented inventory of laundry chemicals and usage, daily weight of articles laundered, clothing articles exchanged, damaged clothing articles and disposed clothing items.
- Monitors safety procedures of equipment and working area.
- Operates one or more industrial washing machines to wash linens, garments, towels, and other articles.
- Operates valves, switches, and levers to start and stop the washing machines.
- Controls the amount and temperature of water for the soaping and rinsing of each batch.
- Loads and unloads the washer and drying machines.
- Operates switches, and levers to start and stop the drying machines.
- Controls the time and temperature of each drying machine according to cloth material.
- Ensures proper folding and sorting of clean clothing and linens and other articles according to requirements.
- Ensures proper distribution in accordance with the facility laundry exchange schedule.
- Ensures work is completed in a priority established by the Assistant facility Director or facility need. All work will be completed with a high degree of professionalism, quality, and craftsmanship.
- Must maintain a safe, clean, and orderly work area by conducting daily inspections of work equipment and the work area.
- Must immediately report to the Assistant Facility Director or PMO on duty of any mechanical failures, unsafe work conditions, accidents and/or injuries.
- Any other duties as assigned by the Assistant Facility Director or PMO.
Qualifications
- Must be fully vaccinated against COVID prior to start date.
- Must possess at least 1 year of supervisory experience.
- Experience preferred in large scale laundry/tailor operation.
- Must be able to operate industrial laundry washing machines, dryers, and sewing machines.
- Must be able to follow and enforce Standard Codes of Conduct pertaining to interaction with staff and detainees.
- Work areas will include laundry room and detention areas. Areas may be hot and humid. Laundry/tailor may be exposed to hot equipment and wet floors. May be exposed to industrial chemicals and solvents that are used in the laundry area. Frequently near mechanically active equipment.
- Must be at least 18 years of age. Must be able to pass extensive background investigation and drug testing. Random drug testing will be performed.
- US citizen or a person lawfully admitted into the United States for permanent residence and have resided in the U.S. for at least the last five years.
- Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent (GED).
- Pass a criminal background and consumer credit check (no criminal record).
- Must obtain and maintain a DHS/ICE government clearance.
- Must pass all pre-employment and random drug tests.
- Must pass a medical examination and meet health requirements.
- Must have the ability to maintain poise and self-control during situations that involve mental stress, such as fires, explosions, disturbances and building evacuations.
- Must maintain a professional personal appearance and calm demeanor.
- Must possess a high degree of integrity, accountability and ability to adhere to the American Correctional Association and DHS ICE standards.
- Must demonstrate an ability to work with a diverse population of people, including people of different cultures, with different values and lifestyles, with a cross-cultural perspective.
- Must maintain current/physical residence in the continental United States.
