VTG is seeking a Shipboard Welder to work in the various shipyards across the Hampton Roads.
What will you do?
- Ensures all items are completed within customer, company and quality procedures and regulations.
- Trains employees on proper welding precision techniques, procedures and safe machine operation.
- Welds metal parts together using both gas welding or brazing and any combination of arc welding processes.
- Studies blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample part to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work piece, sequence of operations, and setup requirements.
- Measures, marks, and scribes layout on metals.
- Performs related tasks such as thermal cutting and grinding.
- Repairs broken or cracked parts, fills holes, and increases size of metal parts.
- Positions and clamps together components of fabricated metal products preparatory to welding.
- Utilizes hand tools such as grinders, drills, needle guns, saws, calipers, scribes, combination squares.
- Verifies conformance of fabricated layouts and items to the blueprint specifications.
- Operate all machines in discipline.
Do you have what it takes?
Education/Experience:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Three (3) to Ten (10) years of related experience
- Proficient at welding as follows: executing welds in all positions, with all types of metals and alloys, in various shapes including pipes, structural forms, plates, sheet metal, bar stock, machinery and equipment.
- Must pass precertification company welding test.
- Must obtain apprenticeship or certification in welding from secondary school.

- Must be able obtain and maintain a secret level clearance. Secret clearance preferred.
