Welder

Overview

VTG is seeking a Shipboard Welder to work in the various shipyards in San Diego, CA.

What will you do?

• Ensures all items are completed within customer, company and quality procedures and regulations.
• Trains employees on proper welding precision techniques, procedures and safe machine operation.
• Welds metal parts together using both gas welding or brazing and any combination of arc welding processes.
• Studies blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample part to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work piece, sequence of operations, and setup requirements.
• Measures, marks, and scribes layout on metals.
• Performs related tasks such as thermal cutting and grinding.
• Repairs broken or cracked parts, fills holes, and increases size of metal parts.
• Positions and clamps together components of fabricated metal products preparatory to welding.
• Utilizes hand tools such as grinders, drills, needle guns, saws, calipers, scribes, combination squares.
• Verifies conformance of fabricated layouts and items to the blueprint specifications.
• Operate all machines in discipline.

Do you have what it takes?

Education/Experience:

• High School Diploma or GED
• Three (3) to Ten (10) years of related experience
• Proficient at welding as follows: executing welds in all positions, with all types of metals and alloys, in various shapes including pipes, structural forms, plates, sheet metal, bar stock, machinery and equipment.
• Must pass precertification company welding test.
• Must obtain apprenticeship or certification in welding from secondary school.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

• Must pass precertification company welding test
• Must obtain apprenticeship or certification in welding from secondary school
• Must be able obtain and maintain a secret level clearance. Secret clearance preferred.

Pay Range: VTG's estimated starting pay range is $25/hr - $35/hr, which is a general guideline for the geographic location. When extending an offer, VTG also considers work experience, education, skill level, market considerations and may possibly include contractual requirements which may cause an offer to fall outside of this range.
