Company Overview:
A growing company is looking for a talented, detail-oriented Senior Data Engineer to join our team of Employee Owners supporting the Missile & Space Intelligence Center (MSIC) in Huntsville, AL. In this hybrid role, you’ll be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining data systems to meet intelligence needs in support of national security efforts.
Key Responsibilities:
As a Senior Data Engineer, you will:
Data Management & System Design:
Design, implement, and optimize data management systems for intelligence operations.
Determine how data will be stored, accessed, integrated, and managed across multiple platforms and digital systems.
Work with end users to define and create optimal data architectures, structures, and systems.
Plan and design efficient data throughput and query performance for large data volumes.
Select and optimize backend database technologies (SQL, NoSQL, HPC) to support ETL pipelines and data queries.
Automation & Software Development:
Maintain and extend data centralization and automation systems.
Utilize Python for database interactions (relational/graph databases) and to create REST APIs.
Develop and maintain data pipelines using Apache Airflow for ETL operations and task automation.
Collaborate with data scientists to develop machine learning pipelines from prototype models.
Infrastructure & DevOps:
Work within Linux OS as the primary development environment.
Use Docker to containerize applications and improve software deployment efficiency.
Collaboration & Best Practices:
Create technical documentation (flowcharts, specifications) in compliance with industry standards.
Collaborate with MSIC teams and contractors, sharing best practices and lessons learned through training and team development.
Ensure that all systems and software follow best practices for security and efficiency.
Qualifications:
Required Skills & Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
2+ years of experience in data engineering, data science, software engineering, or machine learning engineering.
Expertise in Python for database management and development of REST APIs.
Proficiency with Apache Airflow to design and implement ETL pipelines and automation tasks.
Familiarity with Linux OS, Docker, and version control using GIT.
Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases, including graph databases and ORMs.
Experience working in Agile development environments.
Desired Skills:
Experience designing and implementing data pipelines.
Familiarity with machine learning development pipelines.
Knowledge of data modeling for various data modalities.
Security Clearance Requirements:
Must have an active Top Secret (TS) Clearance, with the ability to obtain TS/SCI and CI Polygraph.
Additional Requirements:
U.S. citizenship is required for clearance purposes.
