Vistra is seeking a Communications Specialist to effectively manage the day-to-day communication activities for Naval Safety Command (NAVSAFECOM). NAVSAFECOM works to enhance Naval forces’ warfighting capability through integrated "force preservation" measures to manage risk and prevent mishaps. This position will support NAVSAFECOM efforts and objectives promoting a safety management system communications plan focused on building a culture of safety within the Marine Corps, and will work in coordination with our team at Commandant of the Marine Corps, Safety Division, in Arlington, VA. This will be an on-site role at NAVSAFECOM in Norfolk, VA.



The objectives of this requirement are:

Address NAVSAFECOM safety promotion, which will include long and short-term solutions to create a culture of safety within the Navy and Marine Corps.
Develop NAVSAFECOM promotion and marketing strategies; and
Produce promotional and informational materials via printed and electronic mediums.
Duties and responsibilities include:

Plan, layout, and edit, the quarterly Ground Warrior magazine in coordination with the Commandant of The Marine Corps Safety Division in Arlington, Va.
Provide technical assistance and support for meetings, conferences, and safety-oriented activities, including preparing briefings and handouts, developing and compiling presentation input and information packages.
Manage content and maintain time-sensitive information on SharePoint related to events and activities.
Extract data as needed to develop charts, graphs, and other promotional materials.
Update and maintain NAVSAFECOM hosted social media pages (e.g., Facebook, X, Instagram, etc.) to support the safety mission.
Work with website coordinator to maintain current web content associated with NAVSAFECOM to ensure the currency of the website, execute monthly reviews/updates, and identify and assess potential expansions of capabilities and functionality as programs and requirements change.
Support Navy equities within a combined Navy and Marine Corps (Naval) communications plan, ensuring NAVSAFECOM provides safety information relevant to Naval operations.
Establish QA/QC procedures applicable to all work carried out under this contract.
Plan and execute comprehensive communications and marketing plans for Naval operational and off-duty safety and risk management programs such as 101 Critical Days of Summer, Motorcycle Safety Program, and Fall/Winter safety campaigns.
Draft and revise articles on a variety of Naval and safety-related topics.
Coordinate communications and dissemination of developed safety programs and initiatives.
Create client-driven, safety promotional content, and materials tailored to many different formats and mediums (posters, trifolds, newsletters, email blasts, websites, and social media posts).
Stop, amend, or curtail work for quality, Health, and Safety, regulatory, or operational deficiencies.
Perform other tasks as requested.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree or training and experience in relevant field.
At least three years of experience developing comprehensive communications strategies and plans that include social media content creation.
Experience working with the Navy or Marine Corp preferred.
Strong written and oral communication skills.
Graphic Design Experience with Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator, or similar applications.
Experience in converting technical, sensitive or controversial topics to plain language.
Experience with DOD SharePoint administration.
Experience creating and implementing targeted messaging campaigns to multiple, distinct audiences and establishing criteria to gauge/track effectiveness.
Experience implementing communications and outreach projects assuring compliance with DOD (Department of Defense) and DON (Department of the Navy) requirements.
Experience manipulating content and messaging across multiple mediums.
Experience in creating and maintaining web material; renew web content ensuring accuracy and timeliness of information; ensure site functionality, navigability, usability, and accessibility; and work closely with other IT staff to ensure Safety Division web content is in accordance with Marine Corps guidelines.
Design and facilitation of meetings and work groups.
Secret Clearance.
