Are you a Risk Management and Insurance expert, fascinated by space and want to use your skills to support space exploration and national defense? Then join Lockheed Martin as the leader of the Space Risk Management/Insurance team and spend your days working on new, challenging and meaningful issues. Your responsibilities will utilize traditional risk management and insurance knowledge and responsibilities to support fascinating space-based programs. The ideal candidate will have a background in Aviation and/or Space insurance and experience with U.S. government and FAR-based contracting, as well as commercial.
This role would manage one direct report. As a team, you would be responsible for identification of financial risk via contracts and operational activities and mitigating risk through transfer or risk, use of insurance and indemnification. Responsibilities include:
• Serving as the primary risk management contact for the Lockheed Martin Space (LMS) Business Area (one of four Lockheed Martin business areas) on all insurance related matters. Provide insurance coverage and program expertise to LMS staff, internal and external customers.
• Responding to general risk management service needs for LMS; provide evidence of insurance coverage as required by contracts, leases, etc.; respond to questions regarding scope of Lockheed Martin insurance coverages; and arrange surety bonds where appropriate. Assist in preparation of filings for SAFETY Act Designation and/or indemnification under Public Law 85-804.
• Understanding and advising management on the application of Lockheed Martin's Property, Casualty (CGL, Auto, Cyber, Professional, Work Comp.), Aviation, Space, and other commercial insurance policies to mitigate and transfer risk from LMS.
• Reviewing contracts and subcontracts, identifying risk and advising on risk mitigation strategy. This includes providing recommendations to contract terms and conditions. It also includes understanding current insurance policy coverages and when needed, working with others to purchase policies covering unique space and aviation risks.
• Working closely with LMS Operations and Environment Safety and Health to identify and mitigate facility and operational risk. Participate in site facility engineering reviews with underwriters and implementing recommendations to reduce risk and support loss control efforts.
• Participating in crisis response activities processes to preserve assets in the event of natural disasters or other potential loss events.
• Managing the successful investigation, assessment, negotiation and closure of first and third party claims
• Gathering data for insurance renewal purposes.
• Conducting subordinate employee supervision, potential recruitment, selection and training, performance assessment and work assignments.
There is a strong preference for a candidate to be at a major Lockheed Martin Space site, but qualified candidates located elsewhere with proximity to classified facilities will be considered. Hybrid schedule for telework.
Work Schedule is flexible - 4x10, 9x80 or standard.
The candidate must be eligible for or currently possess a U.S. government TS/SCI security clearance.
The candidate must be ready and willing to travel to any LMS site or Corporate headquarters. Expected travel is 5%.
Basic Qualifications:
• Demonstrated leadership or team lead experience
• 10 years minimum experience in corporate risk management or insurance brokerage or insurance company operations, and/or significant experience in the finance department focused on risk related matters.
• Strong business acumen
• Effective written and verbal communication skills
• Eligible for a security clearance.
Desired Skills:
• Experience in Space or Aviation Insurance
• Familiarity with U.S. Government contracting practices and the Federal Acquisition Regulations ("FAR")
• CRM, ARM or CPCU designation
• Eligible for or currently possess a TS/SCI security clearance.

Pay Rate: The annual base salary range for this position in California and New York (excluding most major metropolitan areas), Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, Washington or Washington DC is $102,000 - $195,500. For states not referenced above, the salary range for this position will reflect the candidate's final work location. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. Lockheed Martin considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/ training, key skills as well as market and business considerations when extending an offer.
